Hitler Invades Poland
Importance: Because of this Great Britan and France declared war on Germany. But what came next was worse, World War ll had begun.
Opinion: I think that Hitler it was very selfish of Hitler to attack Poland, especially right after he made a peace treaty. To me, Hitler was just a man who was greedy for too much power. And to think, this is what started World War ll. -
Hitler Gains Control of Western Europe
Importance: Hitler had invaded all of Western Europe at this point. This caused him to send German planes to bomb Great Britan. This caused the Battle of Britan.
Opinion: I think that this really shows how terrible of a person Hitler really was.Germany is part of Europe, and yet Hitler decides to invade almost all of it. He invaded his own continent. -
Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor
Importance: Great Britan decided to declare war on Japan as well (after the US had). But then Germany and Italy declared war on the US, so the congress declared war on both countries. Because of this first attack, Japan ended up losing mamy important battles, this weakened them which allowed the US to win.
Opinion: I think that Japan made a bad decision to attack the US for the reasons they did and to force us into war the way they did. I also think it is crazy that we are now allies with them. -
Germany Invades the Soviet Union
Importance: The battle bewteen Germany and the Soviet Union lasted 6 months. The Soviets stayed strong and eventually Germany began to weaken. Because of this, Britan and America were able to defeat the Germans in the North.
Opinion: I think in a way, this battle was actually helpful because the Germans (in the North) weakened during it, allowing the US to defeat them. -
Allies Invade Europe on D-day
Importance: The invasion was a succes, which lead the allies to enter Paris. By September, they were at Germany's West border. Eventually, the Nazi's defences fell apart. Becuase of all this, Hitler ended up killing himself and Germany surrendered.
Opinion: I think this battle was imortant becuase it lead to the fall of the Nazis and the death of Hitler. -
US Drops Atomic Bomb on Japan
Importance: After this attack and one other Japan finally surrendered
Opinion: I don't like the fact that the US took the actions of dropping atomic bombs in Japan, but it did cause them to surrender. I just wish that there could have been another way, other than killing so many people.
