Pearl Harbor
The U.S. Navy Base in Pearl Harbor was attacked by hundreds of Japanese fighter planes just before 8:00 am. The Navy's fleet was hit hard; eight battleships were among the nearly 20 vessles destroyed by the bombing attack. The U.S. lost approximatley 200 airplanes as well. Over 200 U.S. sailors and soldiers were killed and another 1,000 were wounded. This assult led to President FDR declaring war on Japan on December 8th, 1941. -
