The Austrian Anschluss
March 12, 1938 is when it started. Hitler wanted to invade its German speaking country's. Before he had went to invade he had made threats and special demands. But once he feared that the demands wouldn't have been met he figured he had no other choice but to use force. -
The Munich Conference
Representatives of Britain France Italy and Germany agreed to meet in Munich to decide Czechoslovakia fate. Hitler claims Sudetenland an area of Czechoslovakia because of large German speaking population. Munich Conference took place on September 29, 1938. Britain and France agreed to a policy which came known as the appeasement. Which was a exchange of concessions for peace. To avoid war they agreed to Hitler's demands. Appeasement later failed in March 1839. -
Hitler Demands Danzig
Takes place a month after the Munich Conference. On March 31, 1938 Hitler demanded that the city of Danzig be returned to the German power. Danzig was more than 90% German it was apart of Poland since WWI. Poland did not give up land causing Hitler to give his soldiers the order be ready to invade Poland. Britain & France would also step in to help help Poland. -
The Invasion Of Poland
On September 1, 1939 the invasion of Poland started. Because of Germany invading Poland France & Britain had no other choice but to declare war against Germany. Germany defeated Poland because of the weapon advancement that they had upon them. They used a technique called blitzkrieg which made the tanks break the formation of their enemies war line. On September 27, 1939 Poland had fell down to Germany. -
The Nazi-Soviet Pact
On August 30th, 1939 the German proposed a treaty to the Stalin. Stalin agreed believing that would be the best way to protect the USSR. The treaty surprised the world because nazism & communism were opposites. The treaty was really made so Hitler would be wage free of the war against Poland. It also divide Poland between the USSR & Germany. -
The Fall Of France
On May 10, 1940 the fall of France had started. Britain had sent forces to France at the Maginot Line while they waited for the Germans to attack. But the choice later harmed they because it allowed the Germans to invade many other places. It caused them to separate which made it easier for the Germans. They crushed the the armies that stood in there way causing the fall of France. -
The Evacuation Of Dunkirk
The evacuation started on June 4, 1940. The Germans were closing in towards the English channels. Which would cause the evacuation to flee by sea. Only one port was open, the rest had been captured by the Germans. Hitler cancelled his troops going to the port in Dunkirk hoping that it would just end easily. Later on the French had surrendered. -
The Battle Of Britain
On July 10, 1940 Churchill gave a speech saying that the British will never surrender. It was a motivational speech to get the British fired up and alert the US. Germany would have to go through Britains air force to invade them.Then there became the Battle Of Britain. They bombed each other. Even though Britain was greatly outnumbered they had technology(radar) that later helped them and would soon make Hitler back off and retreat.
