Hitler is the leader of the Nazi party. He took power of Germany in 1933. He beleived in fascism. This is a form of goverment in which individual freedoms are denied and complete power is given to the goverment. -

Germany invades Poland which starts World War II. Germans attacked Poland from north, south, east, and west Other European countries felt like they had to join in too. Then other European countries wanted to start alliences. -

Gemany invades Denmark and Norway
On this day in 1940, German warships enter major Norwegian ports, from Narvik to Oslo, deploying thousands of German troops and occupying Norway. At the same time, German forces occupy Copenhagen, among other Danish cities.
German forces were able to slip through the mines Britain had laid around Norwegian ports because local garrisons were ordered to allow the Germans to land unopposed. -
Lightning War
In the first phase of World War II in Europe, Germany sought to avoid a long war. Germany's strategy was to defeat its opponents in a series of short campaigns. Germany quickly overran much of Europe and was victorious for more than two years by relying on a new military tactic called the "Blitzkrieg" (lightning war). -
Italy enters the war
The belligerents during World War II fought as partners in one of two major alliances: the Axis and the Allies. The three principal partners in the Axis alliance were Germany, Italy, and Japan. These three countries recognized German hegemony over most of continental Europe; Italian hegemony over the Mediterranean Sea; and Japanese hegemony over East Asia and the Pacific. -
