This was a battle of the Western Desert Campaign fought on Egypt between Germany & Italy against the British forces. It is significant because a second battle was required to drive the Axis Forces out of Egypt for good. -
Battle of Tarawa
Tarawa was the first American offense in the Pacific area. Japan fought to the last man which took a huge toll on the soldiers. This is significant because the US faced serious opposition from the Japanese to their landing and 6,000 men were killed in those 72 hours. -

Iwo Jima was a major pacific battle fought at those Japanese volcanic islands in which the US invaded. This includes some of the fierciest and bloodiest fighting of the war. This is significant because America captured their airfields in which they could stage attacks for the Japanese Islands. -
