It lasted from September 1939 until the defeat of Germany in 1945. In order to win the war and took control of the Atlantic. The German used U-boat in the war and had a great succes. However, Canada set up convoys (group of 50 - 60 supply ships) with corvettes to help the Allied convoys. -

Roosevelt Shortly before 8am on Sunday 7 December 1941, Japanese attacked the Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii. It destroyed 188 US aircraft and killed 2,400 American. Pearl Harbor appeared to be a huge success for Japan. -

During the Second World War, on 19 August 1942, the Allies launched a major raid on the small French coast port of Dieppe. 900 Canadians died, 1000 wounded, 1900 became prisoners of Germany and only 2200 returned safely to Britain. Despite the bloodshed, the raid provided valuable lessons for subsequent Allied amphibious assaults on Africa, Italy and Normandy. -

British and Canadian troops landed at 7.30, at the end's of the day, the soldiers had penetrated six kilometers inlans. It was the big success of Canada at Juno Beach, but had 335 dead and 739 wounded. -

Three days later, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, causing the deaths of 40,000 more.
