The Long March, lead by MaoZedong was when the communist party in China fled from an attack lead by the Chinese nationalists or the KMT. The KMT, lead by Chaing Kai-Shek. Although MaoZedong and the Communists heald off the Nationalists for a while, they were eventually defeated after the 6,000 mile march. -
Germany Incades Poland France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
On September 1, 1939 Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland, and defeated their army within weeks. Germany directly annexed West Prussia, Poznan, Upper Silesia, and Danzig. Although they had tried to keep peace with Germany, after the invasion of Poland or Kristalnacht, Great Britain and France declared War on Germany and WWII was started. -
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
In 1941, the Japanese army bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii with the hopes of scaring the United States into staying neautral. Japan killed more than 2,000 American sailors and soldiers, and destroyed almost 20 vessels. However, this attack had the opposite effect on America than Japan would have liked, and the next day President Roosevelt declared war on Japan. -
Germany surrenders
After the Allies stood their ground at the Battle of the Bulge Germany had no chance of winning the war. Hitler commit suicide, and Germany signed an unconditional surrender in France. May 7 is known as VE day or victory in Europe day, and the day that nazi Germany was defeated. -
Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
In August through September in 1945, after the manhattan project developed a nuclear bomb with Einsteins idea of splitting an atom, the United States bombed first Hiroshima, then Nagasaki in Japan. After the United States's second bombing, on Nagasaki, Japan officially surrendered, and The Whole World was done fighting in World War II. -
United Nations formed
The United Nations was formed in 1945 after World War II after 50 countries made a United Nations Charter. The United Nations was somewhat based off od Woodrow Wilson's League of Nations. The UN was meant to be a postwar international orginazation based on the principle of collective security.
