Hitler Rearms Germany
On March 8, 1935, Hitler announced he would be rearming Germany, reinstating the draft, and rebuilding the air force. This was a major violation of the Versailles Treaty. The treaty siad Germany could only have 100,000 men in the armed forces, and now Germany was exceeding that ammount. -
Austria Falls
Hitler had been pressuring the nation of Austria to become part of the "Germany Realm" for a while. On March 11, 1938 German troops entered Austria. This was the first expansion of Germany's territory. -
Germany takes Sudentenland
Hitler's next demand was part of Chechoslovakia called Sudentenland. Much of this area's population was German. After much debate, a conference in Munich led to the resolution that Hitler could have Sudentenland, but this would be his last claim for territory. -
Hitler takes Chechoslovakia, demands Poland.
By March 30, Hitler had taken what was left of Chechoslovakia, despite his promise to take no more land. Soon after, hitler demandid part of Poland. Once agian, Hitler said this would be his last claim to European land. -
War Begins
On Septermber 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland. This invasion officially started World War II. Almost immideatley, the SS began targeting Polish Jews. -
Crackdown in Poland
Occupied Poland was a harsh area. Children were not educated past the fourth grade. The Polish children who had Aryan features were sent to Germany to become soldiers. The worst treatment was reserved for the Jews, which even invlolved forcing a rabbi to spit on the Torah. -
France Falls, Germany holds all Western Europe
By June 22, 1940, France had fallen, and Germany controlled all of western Europe. A new government was set up in France, which would obey the Nazis. Once again, the Nazis began to work against Jews in the west, and started deporting them to camps. -
Germany Invades the Soviet Untion
On June 22, 1941, Hitler ordered the invasion of the Soviet Union. This ment breaking the treaty between Germany and the Soviet Union. The goal of this invasion was the Anihalation of the Soviet Union. -
The United States enters the war
After the Pearl Harbor bombing, the US declared war on Japan on December 8, 1941. Japan asked for Germay's help to fight the US, and Germany declared war on the US on December 11, 1941. Germany now faced three powerfull openents: Britan, the US, and the Soviet Union.
