Mao Zedong
In 1934, in order to escape the oncoming Nationalists, Mao Zedong headed the Long March, which brought them to a set of foothills on a mountain range. There, they created a stronghold that would now serve as the Communist headquarters in China. -
Germany invades Poland, France and Britain Declare War on Germany
Germany invaded Poland, in which Hitler tried his new method of invasion, the blitzkrieg. The blitzkrieg involved the use of fast moving airplanes and tanks, then following the attack the the invasion of massive amounts of infantry for a surprise attack. When Poland fell, Britain and France stationed their troops on the Maginot Line, a heavily guarded trench with underground supply lines. -
Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, disabling a large part of the US Pacific fleet. However, the admiral who led the attack said that the Japanese had 6 months to take control of the Pacific, then the US would return and go on the attack. -
UN formed
After the two bombs were dropped in Japan and the war ended, the UN was formed in an effort to create lasting peace. This was a stronger version of the League of Nations, which both did not have military power or was backed by the US. -
Germany Surrenders
in May of 1945, Germany surrenders, leaving Japan as the only Axis Power still in the War. Many of the Nazi leaders were tried in the Nuremberg Trials, and almost all were killed, except for one who was sent to solitary confinement for the rest of his life. -

US uses atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima
Over this period of time, the US dropped its two atomic bombs, Fatman and Little Boy on Japan. This caused huge destruction and the loss of over 400,000 lives. Japan had no response, surrendered.
