    The German's invaded Poland because they had some of German provinces. Most German's did not like the idea of invading Poland but they did not like the fact that Poland took some parts of Germany. Poland was defeated within weeks. The German's went into Poland with 2,000 tanks and over 1,000 plans. This event is significant because the Germans gained back their land that they originaly owned.

    This battle was fought entirely in the air. Germany triend to win superiority over Southern Britain and the English Channel by destroying the British air force and the aircraft industry. As the battle went on, both sides fighting this battle lost many planes and fighters. Later on in the battle, Hitler postponed the invasion of Britian. This was significant because it was the first major military campagin in history to be fought entirely in the air.

    Germany invaded Russia with tanks, aircrafts, and artillery pieces. Even with Germany and Russia's "pact" not to invade eachother, Germany still interfered with Russia. The Russian army was larger and smarter than Germany had anticipated. In the end, Germany penetrated Russian territory. This was significant because it showed that Germany was strong and had a powerful army.

    The Germans wanted to capture Russia's capital, Moscow. They believed that once Moscow was cut out of Russia, they would collapse. After battaling for two months, the Russians began to counter attack. Later Hitler tried to pull Germany out of Moscow. Thie is significant because it shows that Germany can be defeated even if they have a lot of power and seem strong.

The Luftwaffe went on a nightly bombing raid that set the city on fire.Before Stalin died, he told his commanders to defend the city. The Germans controlled 90 percent of the ruined city. Later on, the Russians trapped the Germans inside of the city and cut off their supply. The Germans were now on the defence, with the soviets pushing them westward...

    Battle of Kursk-Russia

    The German forces tried to encircle the Soviet armiesaround Kursk and crush them. This had the same manner as the Soviet troops had recently done to destroy an entire German army at the Battle of Stalingrad. But this time the Soviet had an advantage because they knew Germany was going to do this. The Soviet Union had a spy to find out this information. This benefited the Soviet Union because Germany retreated. This battle was one of the most significant battles on the Eastern Front.

    General Dwight D. Eisenhower, commander of this force planned to strike on the coast of Normandy, in northwestern France. To keep Hitler guessing, the Allies set up a huge dummy army with its own headquarters and equipment. This set up was at the French seaport of Calais. The attack started on D-day. This was significant because now that the Allies liberated France, Belgium, and Luxemburg, they now want to set sights on Germany.

    The Allied forces moved toward Germany from the west and the Soviet army from the east. Hitler had to face two fronts. He decided to counter attack in the west. He hoped to split the American and Britian forces, and break up the Allied supply lines. At the end of the battle, the Allies pushed Germany back. They had no choice but to retreat. This was significant because Germany's army was getting weak, and they had no reinforcements available.

    An American bomber dropped the world's first deployed atomic bomb over Hiroshima. This explosion whiped out 90 percent of the city. Three days later another A-bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. This bomb killed 40,000 people. This was significant because Japan's Emperor Hirohito announced his country's surrendor in Worl War II.
