    The Allies wanted to send war supplies over to Europe but needed to gain control of the transatlantic supply lines because German U-Boats were sinking unprotected U.S. ships. The Allies used convoys to protect groups of ships and used sonar system to detect the German U-Boats.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbour

    Attack on Pearl Harbour
    Japan wanted to expand empire throughout the Pacific. They decided to house an attack on Pearl harbour where many of the artillary was kept. 2,400 U.S. militrary and civilians lost their lives. 1, 178 U.S. military and civilians wounded. 18 ships and 350 planes were sunk or damanged.

    The day after Japan's attack on pearl harbour, the U.S. declares war on Japan. This marks the beginning of a long war within all areas of the world. The U.S.begins major war production of supplies, ships, ammunition, and new technolgies. the citizens of the U.S. are unified.

    Battle of the Coral Sea

    The Japanese had been taking over the pacific as they had been undefeatable. U.S. and Austrailia worked together to stop Japan from envading, they may not have won the actual battle but they were able to stop the invasion. After this the U.S. started to use the technique of Island Hopping to weaken Japan's forces.

    A surprise attack on Japan took place on a Pacific island called Midway. Took place after Admiral Chester Nimitz intercepted a Japanese code. The U.S. succeeded in this battle.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    Germany attacks the Soviet Union because they wanted to capture the Soviet oil fields. When Winter of 1943 hit many people died because of hunger and hypthermia. The Soviets took adavantage of this and won. This was a major turning point in the war because the Germans were starting to weaken and the Soviet army could move westward towards Germany.

    Normandy Invasion,more commonly know as D-Day, was an attack by the Allies on Omanha Beach.It was the largest land-sea-air operation in history. It took place on 60 mile strecth of beach, 156,00 allied troops, 4,000 landing craft, 600 warships, 11,000 planes were involved.

    Germany broke through American lines that spanned over the Maginot Line creating a bulge in the territory that was the Americans. This battle was the most expensive for the U.S. losing 80,000 American soldiers. They were close to losing but pulled through and won.

    An island in the Pacfic that the U.S. captured from the Japanese, it was critical for the U.S. win. 27 000 japanese lived on Iwo Jima and after the fight many lost their homes and families. 26,800 Japanese tropps died and 6,000 U.S. marines died.

    A meeting between Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill in Yalta, Soviet Union. There they dicussed post WWII and set up the United Nations.

    This was Japan's last defense against the U.S. They used 1,900 Kamikaze attacks and 110,00 of their own troops died. The U.S. won but lost up to 12,500 troops of their own.

    President Frankinlin D. Roosevelt passes away at the beginning of his fourth term. The U.S.griveves his loss as he was a major influence through out American history. Harry S. Truman was Vive-President and now took the role of the President.
  • Hilter Dies

    Hilter Dies
    Hilter and Eva Braun commits suicide by a gum shot and cyanide. Their bodies were burned. The news made the covr of the Time Magazine. There are many other conspericy theories about Hilter's death.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day stands for Victory in Europe day. General Eisenhower accepts a surrender by the Third Reich. This marked the end of the first part of the war.

    Truman, Churchill, Clement Atlee, and Stalin met in Potsdam Germany. they drew up a blueprint to disarm germany and elimate the Nazi regime. they divided germany into 4 sections abd persectued Nazi leaders. It was the first time the Allies realzied what was going on and what happened during the hallocast. It shocked the world.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    U.S. scientists had been working on something named the Manhattan Project. It was a fake name to hide what they had been doing. The scientists were creating atomic bombs and had created one that could dimolish an entire city. On August 6,1945 the U.S. dropped their first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. It was called the Little Boy and within 43 seconds the city had collapsed to dust.

    After the bombing of Hiroshima the U.S. asked Japan if they wanted to surrender. Japan refused. A few days later the U.S. dropped the second atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. this bomb was called the Fat Man and it leveled half of the city.

    U.S. Occupation of Japan

    After the war was over, the U.S. held trials in Japan for the war criminals. Seven out of twenty-eight leaders were found gulity and were sentenced to death. The U.S. occupied Japan for six years under the leadership of General Douglas MacArthur. He called for a new constitution and introduced a free market. economy.
  • V-J Day

    Stands for Victory in Japan Day. This was the formal surrender of Japan.
