The surprise military attack was carried out on the morning of December 7, 1941. The attack lead the United States’ entry into World War II. -

Battle of the Coral Sea
In May of 1942 Japanese and American naval forces started the Battle of the Coral Sea. The battle had caused a significantly large amount of damage to both forces, but it was a draw in the end. It also prevented the Japanese from invading Australia. -
The Bombing of Humberg, Germany
In the summer of 1943 Allied forces bombed Humberg, Germany, but the bombing was intensified after the United States entered the war. The bombing had killed more than 40,000 civilians in just four attacks. -
Battle of the Bulge
Germany launched a counter attack in Belgium and Luxembourg in December of 1944. Pushing the U.S. First Army back, forming a bulge in the Allied Line. The resulting clash came to be known as the Battle of the Bulge. -
D-Day
On June 6, 1944, the invasion of Western Europe began, heavy casualties were suffered. By late July, nearly 2 million Allied soldiers were in France. August 25, 1944 Paris was freed from Germany’s clutches. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
American Marines stormed the beaches of Iwo Jima in February 1945. The American forces lost an estimated 25,000 men, the United States awarded 27 Medals of Honor, more than any other operation of the war. More than 100,000 American soldiers fought for almost one month to defeat less than 25,000 Japanese soldiers.
