    Germany staged an incident making it look like Poland attacked first and then Germany and the Soviet Union invaded from both sides. Unlike other countries, Poland resisted. But with military superiority, Germany and Russia would soon crush the resistance and split the country between each other.

    Battle of Britain
    In 1940's summer and fall, German and British air forces were engaged in a deadly battle of the ages right over the U.K. In an effort to win, the Germans targeted everything, including air bases, military outposts, and eventually the civilian population until finally the Royal air force drove away the Germans.

    Operation Barbarossa
    For his master plan, Adolf Hitler needed a Lebensraum, or living place, for what he believed to be his master race, or Aryans. To get this land, Hitler decided to invade the Soviet Union and take it. Even though the Soviets helped Hitler in taking Poland, he still needed to invade them after a failed attempt at defeating England.

    The Japanese government, which was mostly military commanders, wanted to go to war because the U.S. didn't want them attacking China anymore. The military force that was sent maintained strict radio silence and traveled behind a storm to not be detected. By December 7, 1941, a large force of Japanese airplanes and ships attacked Pearl Harbor, destroying all the Battleships on Battleship row, nearly all of the planes, and killing over 3,500 unsuspecting American soldiers and civilians.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Germany assembled a massive force to invade the Soviet Union even though he signed a nonaggression pact. The entire operation of Barbarossa would have probably succeeded, had it not been for the harsh winter and lack of German supplies. When they reached Stalingrad, the battle lasted 199 days, and was one of the bloodiest battle of WWII. At points in the battle, Germany held 90% of the city, but the undying will to win never left the hearts of the Soviets and the Germans couldn't take the city.

    During this time in the war, the Japanese had sunk many ships and taken many islands, they were on a winning streak. When they decided to try to take Midway from the U.S, they thought they'd win. They assembled the largest Japanese Naval force ever. Fortunately, U.S. intelligence found out about their plans and had the element of surprise. This was an outstanding win for the U.S. but a terrible loss for the Japanese, they completely lost the advantage in the Pacific.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Under the command of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the allied forces invaded the Nazi controlled beeches of Normandy, France. The Allies had to get into Europe to further the war effort, and this seemed to be the best idea. Massive losses were had on both sides, but the Allies soon won, killing around 500,000 German soldiers. Before the battle, the Allies tricked Germany into thinking the battle would take place elsewhere, and the Germans were caught off guard.
