    Start of the War.
    Political and economic instability in Germany, resentment over the harsh terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty, had led up to World War II. Hitler and Stalin signed the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact, which incited a frenzy of worry in London and Paris. September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland from the West. Only two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany, beginning World War II.

  • Germans attack the West.

    Germans attack the West.
    On May tenth, the Germans had attacked Belgium and the Netherlands, then invaded France. The British and French had suffered a major loss, and would now have to prepare for defense. Now, due to this success, anyone to challenge them would have to face Western Europe.
  • Barbarossa.

    Barbarossa.
    Hitler believed that Germany had to conquer the Soviet Union. On June twenty second, Hitler invades the Soviet Union without declaring war. There was no plan to go with this strategy. This failure for the Germans would soon lead to defeat. They were now fighting a "two-front" war.
  • Pearl Harbor.

    Pearl Harbor.
    On December seventh, the Japanese attack the U.S, officially making this conflict a world war. The Japanese planned to wreck the American Pacific Fleet. Hundreds of Japanese warplanes were launched to sea. Eight battleships, three light cruisers, three destroyers, and four other naval vessels, either sunk/ damaged. 2,403 Americans killed.

    On June fourth, the first defeat of the Japanese navy had happened in over 350 years. The Japanese wanted to destroy what was left of the Pacific Fleet, and hold people hostage, but little did they know that the American Navy was ready for their attack. The Japanese lost 3,500 men, 4 carriers, a cruiser, and 332 aircraft. As America would lose 307 men, a carrier, a destroyer, and 150 aircraft.

    On July fifth, Hitler seen the battle of Kursk as a way to make him more superior. He wanted to lessen the Western confidence. However, the Germans were outnumbered. He ended up cancelling the operation that costed him a lot of strength. The Soviets were now in a position to counterattack.
  • D-Day.

    D-Day.
    On June sixth, right around midnight, the greatest invasion in history begins. 24,000 paratroopers, flown over the Channel in more than 1,000 aircraft, land right behind their enemy lines in Normandy. More than 5,300 ships, carrying over 176,000 men streamed across the Channel. 3,000 Americans suffered casualties. This was huge failure in Germany.
  • Hiroshima.

    Hiroshima.
    On August eight, the first atomic bomb will be dropped above Hiroshima. 40,000 people killed instantly. 100,000 people die days later due to burns or the radiation. Another 100,000 people die to radiation poisoning over the next 5 years. The Japanese will not accept the Allied surrender terms.
  • Nagasaki.

    Nagasaki.
    On August ninth, the second atom bomb would be dropped on Nagasaki. 40,000 civilians die right away. While in Tokyo, the Supreme Council are split between people whom are determined to keep fighting, and those whom want to give up.
  • End of the War.

    End of the War.
    On May eighth, 1945, marks the day of the end of WWII in Europe. On August fifteenth, 1945, Japan surrenders to the Allies. On September second, 1945, Japan formally surrenders, ending WWll for the rest of the world.
