    Japan came into China to gain entry to a city there, China denyed them entry, so Japan tried to force their way in. China held them off of the Marco Polo Bridge, the only entrance to the city. Japan was looking for a missing soldier in this city, but China denyed them entry across the bridge. China was able to hold them off on the bridge, but Japan eventually invaded all of China and took oer.

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    Germany bombed Polish airfields and Germay warships and U-boats attacked Polish naval forces. Germany invaded Poland because Hitler wanted more living space for the Aryan Master Race. Hitler claimed it was a defensive action, but it was for more land, Polish military and government leaders fled the country, so they had to surrender to the German seige. Cities were burned down by the Germans and some of the peoople joined a resisitance.

    German troop invaded Poland, at the same time they bombed Polish airfields, and Warships and U-boats attacked Polish Naval bases. Germany wanted more room for their master race, so they destroyed Poland to make more room. This causesd disorganization in the other army, but also a shorter military campaign. Poland was taken over very quickly because they didn't know how to respond.

    Fall of Paris
    German forces took over Paris, enoforced a curfew, and questioned citizens. Germany took over to make more room for their master race and to get rid of people who were lesser. The Gestapo interegated people and arrested them. Candadian troops rolled through the reason, giving the French hope and the US froze the axis powers assets, Germany and Italy.

    Pearl Harbor
    Japanese fighter planes attacked the naval base. It was a surprise to everyone, so the base was basically undefended. Japan wanted to defeat America's Pacific Fleet, so American forces couldn't fight back while Japan was taking over the South Pacific. 20 American ships were destroyed and 300 planes were destroyed, with many American casulties.

    Bataan Death March
    After the US surrendered to Japan soldiers were forced to walk 65 miles to prison camps. The heat was intense and the prisoners were treated badly by the gaurds. The American-Filipino troops were holding them off without any naval or air support. The troops were starving and crippled with disease, so the general surrendered. The Bataan peninsula was recaptured . Prisoners on the walk were beaten, starved, bayoneted, and killed for the amusement of the Japanses gaurds.
  • Battle of Midway

    American intelligence broke a Japanese code and knew their plans, so they were able to foil them. Japanese ships and planes were destroyed. America broke their code, so America was able to counter attack before Japan's attack started. This was a turning point in the Pacific campaign and allowed the Allies to move into an offensive position.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    American, British, and Canaidan forces landed on Normandy, France to begin an invasion. They captured beaches, bridges, and roads, leaving the enemy confused, they didn't know what was happening. Germany had invaded and occupied northwestern France, so the Allies planned an invasion to liberate France. The Allies were able to liberate Paris and the war prevented the troops in France from being sent East, to protect against the Soviets. D-Day was the beginning of the end of the war.
  • Liberation of Concentration Camps

    Liberation of Concentration Camps
    Soviet soldiers enter the Majdanek Concentrarion Camp, they freed all the prisoners and helped them. When the German forces left the camps and left the prisoners there in their hasty retreat. Hundreds of sick prisoners were left there with all of the victims belongings, including shoes and clothes. Germany had tried to hide all exidence of their crimes, but they were caught. The prisoners were starved and many died after being freed because their bodies couldn't digest the food.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    American invasion of key island near Japan, used to land planes. Japan fought from underground concentrated towards the center of the island. American troops won and everyone except the prisoners were wiped out. America needed a base near the Japanese coast, so it could be closer. The well known picture was taken here. 1083 people were taken as prisoner and the rest were wiped out. This left America with a great victory and a new base near Japan

    The Japanese tried to gain time, by fighting away from the waters edge. They sent planes and their last battle ship on suicide missions, trying to win. The Battle happened because they needed the air base because it was vital to the invasion of Japan.There were large amounts of casulties, both civilian and soldiers. There was a lot of bloodshed and survivors wouln't forget it.

    This was the day that German forces laid down their arms around Europe, it was a final cease-fire. Many Germans had been taken prisoner, so Germany surrendered. The US, Great Britain, and other occupied nations celebrate this day, rejoicing in the defeat of the Nazi War Machine.

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    The world's first ever atomic bomb was deployed of Hiroshima. The explosion destroyed the city and killed civilians. The Manhattan porject built this bomb because they were worried about nuclear weapons reasearch being conducted in Germany. Germany had already been defeated, but Japan didn't want to give up, so they decided to drop the bomb. The cities were completeley wiped out and many people were injured and died. After the second bomb was dropped within hours the emperor of Japan surrendered
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    Japan surrendered unconditionally to the Allies, ending World War II. After the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they agreed to the conditions and surrendered. Japan surrendered because of the bombs, they klled many people and left cities in ruin. After they surrendered averyone was relieved. The celebrations were crazy, everyone was glad they had won after Pearl Harbor.
