The Communist party in China had to flee from Southern China because Jiang Jieshi, the leader of the Nationalist Party in China, gathered a larger army and surrounded the Communist. The leader of the Communist party, Mao Zedong, lead the grueling Long March which covered 6,000 miles. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declares war on Germany
Germany invaded Poland in 1939. The British and French promplty decalred war on Germany because they had a treay with Poland which promised to assit Poland if its idependence was threatened by force. -
Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Japan attacked the Peral Harbor in order to keep the U.S. Pacific fleet from interfering with Japenese military actions. -
Germany Surrenders
After the Battle of the Bulge, the war grew to a close. The Allied soldiers and the Soviet troops approched Berlin. HItler and his wife committed suicide just before the surrender. The end of the word is known as V-E Dya. -
Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The atomic bomb had been developed by the top-secret Manhattan Project. These atomic weapons were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing thousands of Japenese civillans. These caused the Japenese to surreneder. -
United Nations formed
After the events of World War II, the nations wanted peace. The UN was created to prevent such conflicts from occuring again.
