    In February 1938 Hitler threatened to invade Austria unless Austrian Nazis were given government posts. the chancellor of Austria gave in to this demand well trying to put the matter of unification with Germany to democratic vote. Hitler was nervous about the outcome so he sent troops into Austria in March and than announced the Anschluss, of Germany and Austria.

    It is where Britain and France agreed to Hitler's demands. They made peace with Hitler. They thought that if they gave Hitler the things he wanted it would avoid war. The appeasement failed to preserve the peace. In March 1939 Germany sent troops into Czechoslovakia.

    A mouth after the appeasement Hitler demanded that the city of Danzig be returned to German control, he also wanted a highway and railroad across the Polish Corridor, made Britain and France know that war is unavoidable. So on March 31, 1939 announced that if Poland went to war Britain and France would be Poland's aids. In May 1939 Hitler ordered the German army to prepare to invade Poland. He also said that if he has to fight Britain and France he doesn't want to fight the Soviets too.

    A treaty to the Soviets, Stalin agreed. They thought that the best way to protect the USSR was to turn the capitalist nations against each other. If it worked Germany would go to war against Britain and France than the USSR would be safe.

    After Germany invaded Poland, Britain and France both declared war on Germany two days later. This started War World II. Polish army was outdated, they rode horses against German's tanks. Polish capital fell to the Germans on September 27. The German had defeated the polish military.

    The French had built a line of concrete bunkers that was called Maginot Line. French didn't want to risk their solders so they stayed behind the Maginot Line for the Germans to approach. To get around the Maginot Line they would have to invade the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg and that is what Germany did. British and French armies were trapped in Belgium.

    The Evacuation of Dunkirk
    Hilter thought that the British would be more willing to accept peace if the Germans did not humiliate them by destroying their force at Dunkirk. His order provided a three-day delay, this gave the British time to strengthen their lines and begin the evacuation. British ended up saving 338,000 of British and French troops.
