Hitler changed his mind about giving parts of Europe to the Soviet Union. Germany invaded USSR on June 22, 1941. The "Scorched-Earth" policy hurt Germans. Stalin wanted city held at all costs. After 6 months soviets defeat Germans. -
Pearl Harbor
"a day that will live in infamy" The Japanese attack US naval fleet in Hawaii. Eight Battleships and more than 300 planes destroyed. 2403 american causalities, as well. The next day, Congress declares war on Japan. -
Battle of Midway
After Pearl Harbor, the US fought back. The US used the policy of "island hopping" and defeated the Japanese at the Battle of Midway. -
Normandy Invasion
This day is also known as "operation overload" On June 6, 1944, Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. 156,000 American, British, and Canadian forces landed on 5 beaches along a 50 mile stretch. This resulted in the Allied Liberation. -
Battle of the Bulge
The last German push occurred in the Winter of 1944, in the battle. The Allies suffered high casualties, but turned the Germany army away. Germany was never able to mount a large-scale challenge again. -

A rush towards Berlin occurred in the spring of 1945, with the Germans fading fast. On 1945, the americans and soviets met in the German capital of Berlin. Hitler committed suicide in the secret in his secret bunker 2 before on April 30. Victory was in Europe. -
Atomic Bombings of Japan
Harry Truman said that he wanted to drop the bombs to end the war. The US dropped bombs on two Japanese cities. -Hiroshima (Aug 6) and Nagasaki (Aug 9). -
V-J Day
The Allies decided that Germany would be divided and occupied by Allied troops. Truman faced a long and costly battle to take the Japanese mainland. So, he decided to drop the atomic bombs on Japan to force them to surrender.
