By then, production had already declined, unemployment had risen, leaving stocks in great excess of their real value. Other cause of of the market crash were low wages, the proliferation of debt, struggling agricultural sector, and an excess of large bank loans that could not be liquidated. -

On September 28, 1934, Adolf Hitler broke the Treaty of Versailles over Germany's armed forces. In 1934, he destroyed the League of Nations Disrmament Conference by demanding equality of arms between France and Britain, The second way Hitler broke the treaty was over the rhineland. In 1936, Hitler moved his troops into the area, claiming that the recent treaty between France and Britain were threatening Germany's saftey. -

Under the terms of the Treaty of Versailes, the Rhineland had been made into a demilitarised zone, but on March 7th, 1936, Hitler ordered his troops to re-enter the Rhineland breaking the terms of the treaty. OVer 32,000 soldiers and armed policemen crossed into the Rhineland, nd were ordered to retreat if the French showed any signs of making a military stand against them. -

On September 28-29th, in 1938, the leaders of Great Britain, France and Italy agree to let Germany annex some parts of Czechoslovakia. This was a result of a long series of negotiations. Hitler demanded Sudetenland, and Neville Chamberlain tried talking him out of it. Hitler would not back down, so Chamberlain decided to follow a policy of appeasement. -

In October 1934, Franco was called in to quell a bloody uprising of Asturian miners. His success in this operation made him a national figure, and in May 1935, he was appointed chief of staff of the Spanish army. Once in place, he began strengthening military institutions and emphasizing disciplane in the ranks. -

Te Lend Lease Act was propsed in late 1940, and passed in March of 1941. The Act was the principle means for prviding U.S military aid to foreign nations during World War II. By allowing the transfer of supllies without compensaton to ritain, China, the Sovet Union and other countries, the act permited the U.S to support its war interests without being overextended in battle. -
