What Happened
Japan invaded China and blew up key ports in China, and also desroyed homes and buildings.
Why it Happened
Japan claimed that China shot at them, so they were defending themselves.

What Happened
When Japan invaded China, they soon began to rape women from many different age groups.
Why is Happened
The Japanese got bored so they decided to rape women as a way to not be bored, and it became a competition.

More then 20,000 women got raped and killed by Japanese soliders so nobody could say anything about it.

Germany's Invasion on Poland
What Happened
Germany went in and took over Poland.
Why it Happened
Germany and the Soviets made a pact saying that Poland should be split between two powers. Germany did this so the Soviets wouldn't interfere when they invaded.
The effects of the event
Germany completly annexed the Eastern part of Poland under Hans Franc.

What Happened
Germany used Airplanes to drop bombs and tanks to increase firepower.
Why it Happened
Germany wanted to use a more direct form of warfare, and they were practicing before they invaded Belgium.

They destoryed a huge part of Poland in the process

Bataan Death March
What Happened
Japan took American and Filipino soliders and forced them to walk 65 miles as prisoners.
Why it Happaned
American's and Filipino's surrendered to the Japanese, so they took them as prisioners.
The Effects
Thousands of soliders were killed in this because of the brutality of their captors.

The Japanese leader said to have lead the death march was killed April 3, 1946 because of this war crime. -
Warsaw Ghetto uprising
What Happened
The Jewish people resisted the German soliders when they tried to round them up, and ran to their designated hidding place.
Why it Happened
The Jewish people heard that many of the people there were being deported and sent to concentration camps and being murdered.
The Effects
5,000 to 6,500 Jewish people were killed during the uprising and soon after the Germans destroyed the Ghetto and the Synagogue.

What Happened
British Bombers raid Hamburg, Germany by night and America bombs in the morning.
Why it Happened
Britian had just suffered bombings from Germany, killing 167 civilains. This was Britain's way of getting back at Germany.

More than 30,000 people were killed and 280,000 buildings were destoryed. Hitler refused to see these burned places

D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
What Happened
American soilders stormed the beaches of Normandy in a battle against Germanty.
Why It Happened
America knew that if they won against Germany, they could get a foot hold in Europe again.
Effects of Event
4,000 Allied troops lost their lives and some thousand more were wounded or missing.

Battle of the Bulge
What Happened
Three German armies surprise blitzkrieg attacked the American soldiers.
Why it Happened
The Germans did this as a desperate attack in the hopes that they could still win the war.
The Effects
The US army lost 100,000 soldiers in the very costly battle.

The experienced American fighters held as much ground as they could before Germany made it to the inexperienced solider line. -
Liberation of Concentration Camps
What Happened
Russia went in and overran the concentration camp Auschwitz and helped the Jews escape.
Why it Happened
When the Russians found the camp, they knew that they had to take action and help the innocent people there.
The Effects
When Germans heard word of camps being liberated, they marched the Jewish people out of the camps and took them on what they called Death Marches.

Operation Thunderclap
What Happened
Britain attacked Dresden, Germany with 800 tons of bombs and later on America came in and bombed the area again.
Why it Happened
Russia suggested that the Allies attack the communication center to prevent German soliders from shifting to the Eastern Front.
The Effects
When news reached Britain they couldn't believe what happened. Dresden lost 25,000 to 35,000 people in this event.

Battle of Iwo Jima
What Happened
The US invaded Iwo Jima, a tiny island off the coast of Japan, and won.
Why it Happened
The Japanese began to take off from the little island Iwo Jima onto an American Air Base and America didn't like that.
The Effects
After this war, America lost 7,000 marines and 20,000 were wounded. America also took 216 Japanese soliders.

There was an American flag raised on Mt Suribachi before the battle was even over, the men who raised it died in the battle. -
Battle of Okinawa
What Happened
The US invaded Okinawa in an attempt to split Okinawa in half and take back some ground against the Japanese.
Why it Happened
America was trying to take over half of the land that the Japanese had taken over, and were trying to get a step a head in the war.
The Effects
This battle ended with a death toll of 100,000 Japanese deaths and 50,000 for the Allies. America won the battle.

What Happened
Germany laid down their weapons and surrendered and let the Allied POWs go.
Why it Happened
Germany knew that they had been beaten, so they surrendered because they knew they were beat.

America and Great Britain had a huge celebration at the fact that they were one step closer to the war being over.

Russia didn't get to celebrate until May 9th because German soliders didn't surrender in Russia.
Russia lost 600 people before Germany surrendered. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
What Happened
The United States dropped an Atomic bomb onto Hiroshima Japan.
Why it Happened
The US did this as quicker way to get Japan to surrender and as a way to ensure that no more American lives would be at risk.
The Effects
When the bomb was dropped 80,000 people were killed instantly and tens of thousands died a few days later from radiation poisoning.

VJ Day
What Happened
Japan offically surrendered to the Allies which effectivly put an end to World War 2.
Why it Happened
Japan surrendered because of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and they knew that they couldn't go on anymore.
The Effects
It became a celebration in the United States because the war was finally over, and facisim was over.
