It was Russia versus Germany, which Russia won. The end result was Germany with crushed hopes. 700,000 men died during this battle , and 90,000 were taken as POW's. It was important for Russia's part in the war, because they had a stretigic part of land in their power. -
Bombing of Hamburg
Bombing of Hamburg Was one of the most severe attacks on Germany by who we call Allies (France, Britain, Russia). It lasted only eight days, and greatly weakened the German industry- which aided the U.S. The bombing was so severe that 42,000 Germans died instantly, which led Germany to be forced to seek peace with the U.S. and Allies. The bomb ruined about 4,200 German factories. -
Battle of Normandy (D-Day)
Class ChartAmerican forces, along with Allies like France and Britain, invaded the beaches of Normandy, France. The fight was against Germans, which took over France. It lasted nearly 3 months, but in the end it was America, France, and Britains victory. It helped America with the war, because now they were able to push right through the middle of Europe instead of just the through coasts. It showed America more hope; that they were close to ending the World War. -

Battle of Iwo Jima
Class ChartThe Battle of Iwo Jima was Japan vs. America. America bombed the island of Iwo Jima, so the Japaneese dug tunnels and stayed in them. The bombing lasted for only 36 days, with about 26,000 casualties. invasions, and suicide rates. Most of the Iwo Jimans' would rather die than be a POW, therefore, they killed themselves. The overall result of this victory showed American citizens that there was still hope during World War II. -

Hitler's Death With the falling of Germany, Hitler didn't want to live in a world where he wasn't in power. Therefore, his only way out was to die, so he killed himself just before U.S. and Allied forces could get to him. With the death of Hitler came the end of World War II and peace. -
