German Blitzkrieg
Hitler breaks agreement with Sudetenland and invades Czech then turns sites on Poland. Hitler and Stalin agree not to attack one another and divide Poland. This agreement with Stalin and Hitler allows Hitler not have to fight a two front war. Hitler invades Poland with a new military strategy. Hitler and Stalin invaded Poland because they both wanted to expand more. They took the enemy by surprise and quickly defeated Poland. (Class Notes) -
Fall of France
The fall of France happened due to Hitler wanting to expand more. This was known as the "Phony War". It was known as the "phony war" because the first few months of war Britain and France sat waiting for Germany. Later Hitler invades thru Belgium in May and by June he gains control over France. Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was surprise airborne raid on Britain from Germany. Hitler's plan was to able to soften Britain for invasion by continuously bombing. Hitler and Germany was not successful so he called it off after 11 months of bombing.

Lend Lease
The United States wanted to assume a neutral stance so therefore, FDR signed the Lend Lease Act. FDR began to seek ways to aid Britain while still remaining free come conflict. Operation Barbarossa
Hitler launched a massive invasion on the Soviet Union. The invasion covered a front from North Cape toe the Black Sea. Its failure forced Germany to fight a two front war against Russia. -
Pearl Harbor
Due to FDR freezing Japanese financial assets and stopping the export of oil to Japan, Japan's military leader wanted to surprise attack Pearl Harbor. Japan's military leader called for someone to make an elaborate plan. The guy he told to make the plan told the military leader not to do it cause they will wake a "sleeping giant". Japan wanted to bomb the U.S. because the U.S. was the only thing in Japan's way for expansion. -
U.S. Declares War on Germany and Japan
FDR requests and receives a declaration of war against Japan. FDR later declares war on Germany and Japan due to the bombing on Pearl Harbor. President FDR delivered his "Day of Infamy Speech" and immediately afterward Congress declared war. This made the U.S. go into WWII. -
Bataan Death March
The United States surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on the Philippine island of Luzon to the Japanese during WWII. The marchers made the trek in intense heat and were subjected to harsh treatment by Japanese guards. -
U.S. Wins Battle of Midway
Six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. defeated Japan in a naval battle. This was an important turning point in the Pacific campaign. This victory allowed the U.S. and its allies to move into an offensive position. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Russians consider this to be one of the greatest battles of their Great Patriotic War. The Battle of Stalingrad stopped the German's advance into the Soviet Union and marked the turning point of the tide of war in favor of the Allies. Hitler's goal was to eliminate Soviet forces in the south to be able to wheel his armies to the north to Moscow to conquer the remaining of the Caucasus. -
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
German police crushed the uprising and and left the ghetto areas in ruins. The surviving ghetto or Jews were transported to concentration camps or killing centers. Billion Jews were killed in gas chambers or forced to work in labor camps. -
D-Day
The Allied powers made Germany believe that they were going to attack or go in through Norway, but the Allied powers crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. This began the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control during World War II. The northern part of France would be freed within three months and the invasion force would be preparing to enter Germany, where they would meet up with Soviet forces moving in from the east.

Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge was Hitler's attempted to split the Allied armies in northwest. Three German armies launched the deadliest and most desperate battle of the war in west in the forested Ardennes. -
Liberation of Concentration Camps
Soviet soldiers were the first to liberate concentration camp prisoners in final stages of war. Soviet soldiers entered a camp in Poland and overran several other killing centers. Then they enter Auschwitz and found many sick and exhausted prisoners. -

Battle of Iwo Jima was when U.S. Marines stormed the beaches of Iwo Jima. Japan defenders had entrenched themselves in a honeycombed network. It took weeks for U.S. Marines to advance in the unforgiving terrain. -
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
These two bombs were revenge for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. These two bombs whipped out many people. These two bombs made Japan surrender in WWII.
