    Ended June 4, 1940. Occurred at Dunkirk, France. Britain and France vs Germany. Germany had the upper hand so the Allies evacuated by sea. Most of the equipment was left behind. 198,000 British were evacuated and 140,000 Allied troops were evacuated, mostly French. 50,000 British didn't escape. 11,000 of them were killed while the rest were taken as prisoners of war. British considered this a victory, but others thought otherwise.

    The attack ended on December 7, 1941. Occurred in Hawaii, Oahu, United States. Japan attacked the United States. Military Leaders: Nagano Osami, Tojo Hideki, Yamamoto Isoroku, Walter Campbell Short. Japan led a surprise aerial attack on Pearl Harbor. Three cruisers, three destroyers, and other vessels were damaged. More than 2,300 killed with casualties of about 3,400 for the United States military. Japan lost less than 100 men, 29 to 60 planes, and about one to two fleets of submarines.

The United States won. About 3,000 Japanese soldiers and airmen were killed. Four carriers, a heavy cruiser, and more than 320 Japanese planes sunk. One American carrier and one destroyer, and about 150 aircraft were destroyed. About 317 sailors, airmen, and Marines were killed.

Axis casualties were 800,000 dead wounded, missing, or captured. About 40,000 civilians died. Soviet Union won.

    The battle ended on August 23, 1943. Occurred in Kursk, Russia. Germany vs Soviet Union. Military leaders: Walther Model. The Soviet Union won. The Battle of Kursk was the largest tank battle in history. About 800,000 Soviet casualties and about 200,000 German casualties.

More than 200,000 dead, wounded, and missing from Allied armies. Germans had 300,000 casualties. About 12,000 French civilians died. Allied Powers were successful with their invasion.

Military Leaders: Walther Model, George Patton, Gerd von Rundstedt, Creighton Williams Abrams, Jr.. The Allies won the Battle of the Bulge. Germans lost 120,000 men and many materials they couldn't afford to replace. Allies had 75,000 casualties,

    the battle lasted until March 26, 1945. Occurred in Iwo Jima, Japan. Japan vs the United States. Military Leaders: William Daniel Leahy, Douglas MacArthur, George Catlett Marshall, Chester W. Nimitz, Tojo Hideki. The United States won. About 18,500 Japanese soldiers died. About 6,800 U.S. Marines were killed and another 19,200 were wounded.
