The Soviets defend against the Germans at Stalingrad. They fight until winter, February 2, 1943, when they finally surrender. -
D-Day and Operation Overlord

Britain, Canada, and the U.S. land on Normandy to force German soldiers out and regain control over France. Within a week the beach is secured and the forces move closer to Paris where they secure Northwestern France. Operation Overlord was a plan to get as many troops on the beaches of Normany after the first attack of D-Day. -
Operation Valkyrie

Operation Valkyrie was a plan aproved by Hilter was to be used if communications were lost between Hitler and the Nazi German Government or if uprising started. Major Claus von Stauffenberg tried to modify the operation and to assassinate Hitler and give freedom to the German people. He tried to kill Adolf Hitler, Hermann Goering and Heinrich Himmler. Hitler survived with an arm injury. -

Hitler tries to split the Allied forces by a surprise blitzkrieg. U.S. soldiers were nearly annihilated and forced up to Lorraine when they turned and stayed at Bastogne. -
Adolf Hitler commits suicide

Hitler takes a cyanide capsule and shoots himself in an underground bunker. His wife also commited suicide, later Hitler and his wife were cremated. Hitler was not pronounced dead until a court hearing in 1956. -
V-E Day

V-E Day was the end of World War II. The German General Jodl signed a document of surrender on May 7. Winston Churchill was not aware of this surrender until about 5 hours after it was signed. -

An Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. A U.S. B-29 Bomber, Enola Gay, drops a bomb on Hiroshima. It is the first Atomic bomb ever used and killed about 80,000 people on impact and 35,000 are wounded. Later because of the affects of the bomb another 60,000 people die. This bomb was made of Plutonium instead of Uranium. -

V-J Day

These were trials similar to the Nuremberg Trials. These trials were against people that commited crimes in the war or against humanity. They were held in Tokyo, Japan where they found 25 out of 28 Japanese people guilty.
