Italy Invaded Ethiopia
The Italian dictator Mussolini decided to act on his own imperialist ambitions and attack Ethiopis. Italy had been defeated by Ethiopia at the battle of Adowa in 18936 and still resented it till that time. Though the Ethiopians resisted bravely, in the end they couldn't hold their ground and were conquered by Italy. -
Spain's Civil War
Francisco Franco led a revolt that set off a bloody civil war. People quickly jumped to sides, Loyalist, being the supporters of the republic and Nationalist, supporting fascist and supporters of right wing polocies. -
Second Sino-Japanese War
After Japan's easy success invading Manchria their army strengthened they took over much of eastern China which in turn started the second Sino-Japanese War. We chose this because by the japanese taking over China and ignoring the fact that the aggression stopped this sparked the Second japanese war. -
Austria Annexed
Hitler sent the Germany War to "perserve oerder". He annexed the state and made speech from the Hofburg Palace, to indicate his role as the new ruler. -
Britian and France persuaded Czechs to Surrender
Britian and France caved into Hitler's demands and persuaded the Czechs to surrrender the Sudetenland without fight in exchangefr assurance that Germany had no further plans to expand on ther territory. -
Hitler Announced Pact With His Enemy
The pact wasn't based on anything other than mutual need. Hitler feared communism as Stalin feared fascism. They agreed upon many things to work together, but mutual suspicions kept them apart. This is important because it showed the lengths they were willing to go to in an attempt to win the war they created. -
Nazi Commit Genocide
Hitler has Germans create six concentration camps for their "undesireables" to kill via gas chambers and by gun point. The prisoners were stripped of their clothes and valuables before throwing them into the camps. -

Operation Sea Lion
Operation Sea Lion was a plan created by Hitler to invade Britian. It began with daily bombings on the southern coast of Britian and eventually moved onto Germany bombing cities like London. But it fails in May 1941, Hitler had hoped it would've lessened their moral but it had only stregthened it and made them want to fight back even more. -
Germany Invades then Soviet Union
Germany invading the Soviet Union- also called Operation Barbossa- was started by Hitler wanting to crush communism in Europe and defeat his powerful enemey. But he also wanted lands such as Ukraine and Siberia for their raw materials and tremendous wheat feilds so that he could continue to supply his armies with weapons and food. -
Bataan Death March
Filipino soldiers were forced into the death march, with as many as 10,000 dying during it. Many Filipino civilians risked or lost their lives to give food and water to to the captives forced into a 65-mile march. This is important because it signifies how many lives were lost, even in 'small' events such as this that don't get much attention. -
Japanese Gained Control of The Philippines
Japan gained full control of the Philippines by May 1942, killing as many as 10,000 Filipino soldiers and 700 American soldiers during the Bataan Death March. The Bataan Death March was where the Japanese forced both American and Filipoino prisoners of war to march under brutal conditions. -
Goverments Increase Power
To achieve maximum war production, democratic goverments in the United States and Great Britian increased their political power. They put their ecnomic into the war effort, ordering factories to stop making cars and instead make airplanes and tanks instead. -

Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin met at the Yalta conference to discuss that the Soviet Union would attack Japan, and they would take possession of islands in Korea. This is Important because this would lead up to the attack on Japan and making the Soviet Union do something for the sake of not just their country but the U.S. -

Allies Crossed the Rhine into Western Germany
This signified the bieggining of the Allies slowly closing in on the Axis powers over a course of several months. This event was chosen because it singifies the ending of the war slowly closing in, more and more enemy troops started surrendering, the end of the war fast apporaching. -
Establishing United Nations
The United Nations was an international organization established after World War II with the goal in mind of maintaining peace and cooperation in the international community. -
Hitler's Reign Suddenly Ends
Hitler commited suicide in his underground bunker as some Soviet troops made their way into Berlin. HE did this to escape the punishment he knew he'd be forced to face, which would more than likely be the same fate. This is important because it marks the end of Germany's terrorizing fighting. Even though the war doesn't end for another week or so, it's still a very important date. -
Nazis Defeated
The Allied powers, being surrounded on all sides and their leaders either being captured and executed or by committing suicide. They finally surrendered on May 7 and the war officially ended on May 8. -
V-E Day Was Proclaimed
V-E Day (Victory in Europe) was when the Germans finally surrendered to the Allies in Europe. This had been after Hitler had committed suicide in his underground bunker. Since the german army had no one left to lead them they had no choice but to surrender. -
Second Atomic Bomb Dropped on Nagasaki
When Japan did not surender after the first atomic bomb, the United States dropped a second bomb, on Nagasaki instead of Hiroshima, in desperate attempts to end the war. More than 40,000 people were killed with the second bomb alone, with two days after the second explosion, Japan finally surrendered. This is important, considering how most only focus on the Hiroshima bombing. In fact, some don't even know of the second bombing, it is just as important as Hiroshima and, in fact, ended the war. -

The Cold War
The Cold War was a state of tension created between states after the war and the alliences were offically broken. It was followed by several disagreements between Stalin and others. This is importantbecause it shows the nations trying to return to normal, but being stopped by the tension between all the countries as a result of the war.
