After the invasion of Manchuria in 1931, China appealed to the League for help but it only caused Japan to withdraw from the League.

    Adolf Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany in January 1933. He promised to help the economy of Germany and he promised to build up the German Millitary.

Eisenhower led the invasion. 156,000 American, British, and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch on the heavily fortified coast of France's Normandy region.
