    Beginning and Cause of the War
    On September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland from the west. A couple of days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany. The other surrounding nations of Germany felt threatened including Britain and Germany which is what made them decide to declare war on Germany. This was marked as the start and one cause of World War II. Many countries were involved in this war causing it to be a very significant event to our world history, which also caused it to be a war to end all wars.

    Britain, Holland, and Luxembourg are invaded by Germany. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain resigns due to the failure of his appeasement policies. Winston Churchill ends up replacing him and forms a coalition government. Winston soon confers with U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt for aid, because Britain was standing alone and needed an ally and extra support. During World War 2, people changed power due to the traumatic situations with Germany which helped make this a war to remember.

    The Battle of Britain begins, because Germany tried to attack Britain from the sky using air force. Britain wanted to remain not invaded by Germany. In order to do this, the Royal Air Force won the air battle against Germany. By winning the battle, invasion for Britain became impossible by Germany and the future defeat of Nazi Germany became possible. The fact that Britain beat Germany in the Battle of Britain, and gave Germany some discouragement, helped make this a war to end all wars.

    Without declaring war, Germany invades the Soviet Union, causing many disruptions and uprisings throughout Russia that are blamed on Germany. Germany called this invasion their "Barbarossa" plan. Hitler fights a two front war in this small battle.The Germans are successful with their plan and experience little difficulties. Germany was successful with the "Barbarossa" plan and ends up invading the Soviet Union. The fact that Germany had many successes, made this a war to end all wars.

    At 7:55 a.m. on Sunday, warfare from Germany headed towards Pearl Harbor to bomb it, based on a plan by Isoroku Yamamoto. Eight battleships, including the U.S.S. Arizona, three light cruisers, three destroyers and four other naval vessels were either sunk or damaged. 2,403 Americans were killed and many airplanes were damaged. Because so many innocent people were hurt and killed, World War II was a war to end all wars.

    The Battle of Midway started on June 4, 1942 and ended on June 7. The Battle of Midway was the first defeat of the Japanese navy in 350 years, and was the turning point in the Pacific as the U.S. went on offense. The Japanese were planning on defeating the U.S., but the U.S. knew their plans, and were prepared and waiting for them. The Japanese lost 3,500 men, for carriers, a cruiser, and 332 aircraft. America's success and the failures of other nations makes this a war to end all wars.

    The Battle of Kursk started on July 5, 1943 and ended on August 23. The Battle of Kursk is known as the largest tank battle in history. The Soviet Union wins this battle against Germany and the Germany Luftaffe loses the air war against Russia for the first time. The Battle of Kursk included 6,000 tanks, 2,000,000 troops, and 4,000 aircraft. This was a battle that made World War II a war to end all wars, because Germany was defeated and this battle was the largest tank battle in history.

    The greatest invasion of history happened just after midnight, as the first of 24,000 paratroopers were flown over the channel in 1,000 aircraft and were dropped behind the enemy border in Normandy. More than 5,300 ships, carrying 176,000 men, traveled across the Channel. This was one of the bloodiest days in history. About 2,500 American soldiers laid dead on the French grounds by the end of the day. Many records were broken during this war, making it a war to end all wars.

    The Battle of Leyte Gulf was an air and sea battle of World War II. The Battle of Leyte Gulf crippled the Japanese Combined Fleet, permitted U.S. invasion of the Philippines, and reinforced the Allies' control of the Pacific Ocean. The battle was started by a U.S. amphibious assault on the central Philippine island of Leyte. The Japanese planned to destroy and defeat the U.S. This made World War II a war to end all wars, because it was a close battle between the Japanese and the U.S.

    Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    The nuclear bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were originally created and meant to be dropped on Germany. With the drop of these bombs, 40,000 men, women, and children were killed in an instant. Hundreds of thousands of people died hours later from radiation burns, while hundreds of thousands more, died up to five years later due to poisoning from the bombs. This was probably the most significant event of the war, because it made people realize the brutality that was going on.
