The Treaty of Versailles makes the Chinese people even angrier than they were before because they gained nothing from the Great War and they felt disregarded. Mao Zedong led the Communist Party and led the Chinese communists during the Long March when the Chinese Nationalists and Jiang Jieshi were chasing them. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
Hitler demanded Poland would return back to the former German port of Danzing and in return, the Poles refused. The Poles asked Great Britain and France for help and in turn, both France and Great Britain asked the Soviet Union to join them in fighting against Hitler. German troops and tanks attacked the Polish border and bombed it's capital, Warsaw on September 1, 1939.Great Britain and France declared war on Germany but Poland fell to Hitler and was annexed before they could come to aid. -
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
Admiral Isoroku, Japan's leading naval strategist called for an attack on the U.S. fleet in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. More than 2,300 Americans were killed and 1,100 were wounded. In response to Japan's suprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Congress approved President Roosevelt's demand for a declaration of war on Japan and it's allies. -
Germany surrenders
After the Battle of the Bulge, the soviets surrounded Berlin. Hitler and his girlfiend Eva Braun got married and later commited suicide. General Eisenhower accepted the "surrender" of the Third Reich. -
United Nations formed
After World War II the United States and the Soviet Union along with 48 other countries formed the United Nations. It was an international orginization which created the General Assembly. Each member of the UN could enter its vote concerning rising problems. The Security Council was also created and included 11 members who had the power to investigate and find solutions for problems. Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
An american B-29 bomber dropped the first atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima in Japan. 80,000 people died as an initial result of the bomb and thousands died later due to radiation. Three days later, a bomb on Nagasaki was dropped which killed 40,000 people. Emperor Hirohito surrendered on the radio the day after the bombing.
