    Carl Vinson was born
    Twenty months before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, an event that precipitated America's entry into World War II (1941-45), Vinson steered two bills through Congress. The first called for expanding naval aviation to 10,000 planes, training 16,000 pilots, and establishing 20 air bases; the second speeded naval construction and eased labor restrictions in the shipbuilding industry.

    Richard Russell was born
    His meteoric rise was capped by election, at age 33, as Governor of Georgia, serving from 1931 to 1933. He was sworn in by his father, who had become supreme court justice of Georgia 9 years before. He was a progressive governor who reorganized the bureaucracy, promoted economic development in the midst of the Great Depression, and balanced the budget.

    Adolf Hitler committed suicide in Berlin, Germany along with his wife. At about 3:30 in the morning, a loud gunshot was heard throught Hitler's study room. He had shot himself in the head. As for his wife, she had taken cyanide, a poisonus comound. About a month later, the HOlocaust officially ended.

    Bell Aircraft was founded by LAwrence Dale Bell in 1935. It was known for building fughter aircraft for WWII. Most of the bulding took place in Marietta, GA, where it had turned into an industrial center. Bu the end of the war, they had produced 668 bombers.

    The shipyards in Brucswick GA were used for trading before the war. It then turned into a cpmpany building pace where people built liberty ships. The shipyard attracted many people to visit.

    The lend-lease act was signed by president Roosevelt on March 11th 1941. It's purpose was for the USA to supply Britain and China with weaponry, ships, and planes. Later in the war, the US gave these supplies to the Soviet Union and other allies, too. In return, the allies allowed the US to own army bases and naval bases in their countries throughout the war.

    The bombing of Pearl Harbor was a surprise Japanese attack on an American naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawii. Over 2,300 Americans were killed. Twelve ships were destroyed, and nine others were damages. also, 160 aircraft were destroyed, and 150 others were damaged. This event took the whole country by Surprise.

    The savannah shipyards are very similar to the brunswick shipyards.IN savv=annah, this shipyard provided several jobs for women who needed jobs. By the end of the war, this shipyard had made 88 liberty ships.

    D-day is a term used by the military meaning the day you will attack and take combat. Now, D-day is most referred to the Normandy Landings that took place during operation Overload. The allied powers had planned to invade France through Normandy. The allied powers had over 10,000 casualties.

    The Yelta Confrense was held bewtween President FDR, Winston Churchill, and Joeseph Stalin, It was happening as soon as the world war was ending. The three discussed what they would do with Germany. It had finally been decided that they would split up germany into American, Grench, and Birtish territory. There was no need for a German army or navy any longer.

    In 1945, at 8:15 am the US dropped a massive bomb in HIroshima, Japan. 80,000 deaths were recorded. Weeks later, thousands of people were still injured and eventually died from their extremem conditions. The US was the first country to use an atomic weapon in WWII.

    3 days after the bombing of Hiroshima, USA dropped a second bomb on the Japanesse city of Nagasaki at about 11 in the morning. Beween 60,000 and 80,000 people were killed. 6 days later, Japan announced their surrender, and it was official on September 2nd. World War Two had finally ended.
