This occured shortly after the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was set. Poland was divided between the Germans and the Soviet Union. There was no battle between the two forces. -

An important battle during the Battle of France where Alied forces made a miraculous evacuation from the German army. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
This was a suprise attack by Japanese fighters on the Pearl Harbor navy base in Hawaii. Just after this the United States declared war on Japan. -
Bataan Death March
An 80 mile death march led by Japanese forces after the Battle of Bataan. The march included thousands of natives to the phillipines and hundreds of American POWs. -
Battle of Midway
This was one of the greatest naval victories in history. The United States defeated the Japanese fleet proving to be one of the most decisive battles of the war. -
D-Day
This was an attack on Normandy by Allied Forces. It was a big loss for German forces to lose this fort, but Allied forces lost nearly twice as many soldiers. -
Battle of the Bulge
This was America's costliest battle of the war. American forces were blind sided by German and even though the tremendous forces lost, the Germans still lost many of the war resource because of this. -
Yalta Conference
This was the post-war conference to decide how the reorganization of Europe would happen. It was attended by the leaders of the US, Britain, and the Soviet Union. -
VE Day
Known as Victory in Europe Day, This marked the end of the war in Europe after Nazi Germany surrendered to Allied forces. -
The Bombing of Hiroshima
The bombing was ordered by President Truman to prevent tremendous loss in the event of a Japan invasion. It was a last effort to make Japan surrender, and shortly after they did. -
VJ Day
The day that Japan surrendered, ending World War II.
