    Manhattan Project

    The Manhattan Project was the team of scientists tasked with creating a weapon of mass destruction that was nuclear. The idea of a bomb of immense strength was theorized by Albert Einstein, who sent a letter to President F.D.R. The Manhattan Project manged to create an atomic bomb of two types, the first known as little boy and the second known as the fat man. They were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima to try to end the war between the Japanese.

    Japan was attempting to expand their empire throughout the Asia. America placed a trade embargo on Japan to attempt to deter Japan, from conquering more territory. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 the day was Sunday, the military was not on guard. The Japanese killed 2,400 soldiers and civilians, wounded 1,178 soldiers and civilians, and destroyed 18 ships and damaged or destroyed 350 planes.Japan viewed Pearl Harbor as a major victory

    The battle of the Atlantic was caused by German U-boats destroying American ships and cargo ships. The allies attempted to use a convoy system to curb the amount of ship loses. The Germans were very successful in the beginning, Americans began to use a ASDIC also known as a sonar. They used the ASDIC to send sound waves through the water to detect German U-boats. In 1943, the Germans began to lose the upper hand and the Allies became victorious.

    Battle of the Coral Sea

    The Battle of the Coral Sea was a turning point in the war because, the Japanese up until that point had been winning every battle. The Japanese were conquering new territories, up until the Battle of the Coral Sea. The Americans and Australians managed to prevent Japan from conquering Australia. The Americans defeated the Japanese invasion, but the Japanese won the actual battle. The Americans began to use the military strategy called island hopping to defeat Japan.

    The Americans launched a surprise attack on the Japanese at a set of island called the Midway Islands. The Americans intercepted a code sent by the Japanese. The Americans were successful during the battle, the Japanese lost three aircraft carriers. The Japanese also lost 275 planes,3 destroyers, 4800 men, and the remaining ships and vessels were badly damaged. The American lost 1 aircraft carrier, 1 destroyer, 150 planes, and 307 people.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    The Battle of Stalingrad was caused by the Germans violating their non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union. Hitler wanted to capture the Soviet oil fields to fuel his army. The Germans almost won they control 9/10 of the city, the winter of 1943 killed many German soldiers. Hitler forced the soldiers to stay in the brutal winter weather, the Soviets used this to their advantage to win the battle. The Soviets lost 1100000 people in the battle. This was the turning point in the war.

    The Battle of Normandy may have been one of the most important battle in WWII. It was a secret operation code named, " Operation Overlord," it was an attack on the cost of Normandy, France. The battle was an attempt to begin to free France from Nazi control. 425 000 allied and German troops were killed, wounded, or were missing just during the Normandy invasion. Key people in the creation of the Battle of Normandy were Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower and George Patton. France was freed in 1944sep.

    Battle of the Bulge

    The Battle of the Bulge was an offensive attack by the Germans in an attempt to capture Antwerp, Belgium. The battle started when, German tanks broke through the Americans lines 80 mile front. It was a very remorseless battle 120 American soldiers were killed by SS machine guns. The Americans won the battle, but in the beginning the Germans were winning. The Germans lost 600 tanks, guns, and 1600 planes which lead to their defeat. 120000 Germans died, while 80000 American soldiers died.

The U.S.A. occupied Japan for 6 years under the control of General Douglas MacArthur. While occupying Japan they called for a new constitution, women's suffrage, and introduced a free market economy.
