Invasion of Poland
The invasion of Poland marks the beginning of World War II. Hitler's troops invaded from north, south, and west. Poland awaited backup from Britain and France, but recieved very little. Britain and France both had pacts with Poland, they declared war on Germany. -
Battle of Britain begins
The first concerted attack on British airfields was launched the 12 of August of 1940. Operation Sea lion was Germany's strategy for attacking Britain. The Luftwaffe (German air force) was instructed to help prepare the way for invasion by driving British warships from the Channel, but, Luftwaffe commanders were increasingly concerned to attack the RAF in order to reduce Britain to submission by a bombing war on civilian targets. -
Operation Barbosa
Germany attacked Russia in June of 1941. Hitler sent three armed forces into Russia toward the north, east, and south. Hitler would not let his men to give up, and most of them died during the brutal winter and from starvation and disease. This attack led to the opening of the eastern front of the war. -
Japan attaks U.S.A
Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. They attacked in two waves. The first wave was the main attack to take out ships and airfield. The second wave they would finish off whatever was left. -
Battle of Midway
The USA defeated the Japanese navy at the Battle of Midway. This help the US navy to push the Japanese back. -
Italy surrenders
The Germans took control of the Italian army, they freed Mussolini from imprisonment and set him up as head of the government in Northern Italy. -
D-Day
The Allies created a fake army of wood and cardboard tanks and ships to convince the Germans that the invasion would come to Calais and not in Normandy. Hitler sent his divisions to Calais and the Allies invaded France. This gave the Allies a foothold in Europe. -
Hiroshima
The Japanese generals refused to surrender. The US dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, which cause a great impact on Japan, with many deaths and injured people. -
Atomic Bomb in Nagasaki
This bomb made a grater impact than the first bomb, dropped on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. Some 6.7 square kilometres of Nagasaki was reduced to ashes; 73,884 people were killed and 74,909 injured. As a result, Japan agreed to surrender unconditionally. -
End of the World War II
After the Japanese surrendered the 14 of August.
US General, Douglas MacArthur, accepted Japan’s surrender thus formally ending the second world war.
