First known as Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, helped provide workers, truck drivers, instructors, and lab techinicians for the Army. These were all women since the men were away in war. This shows the women's role in the war. -
Pearl Harbor Attack
Air forces and battleships were sent to attack Pearl harbor which was the United State's Navy's main Pacific base. This would prevent Americans from mounting a strongf resistance to Japanese expansion. It was a complete surprise. -

Franklin D. Roosevelt makes an address to Congress to declare war. The House voted 388 to 1 to declare war. Democrats and Republicans put their political differences aside to unify the nation in facing the task of winning global war. This shows how the nation came together. -
General MacArthur's loses
MacArthur was put charge of the U.S Army forces in Asia. He struggled to hold U.S position in the Philippines. Japanese destroyed half of the army's fighter airplanes and rapidly too Guam, Wake Island. MacArthuer was also ordered to evacuate Australia. -
Bataan Death March
Japanese troops forced sick POW's to march 55 miles up to the Bataan Peninisula to reach a railway to then walk 8 more lies which caused 7,000 American and Filipino troops to die. This was the death march. -
Doolittle raid
James Doolittle planned with American leaders to make a nighttime bombing raid against Japan, but they were detected earlier so they bombed Tokyo . It helped bolster American morale for tje long fight ahead. -
Battle of Coral Sea
This event helped kindle hope for American military in the Pacific. Japanese and American aircrafts attacked each other. It was technically a U.S victory since it forced Japanese to call off their attack on New Guinea. This and Doolittle renewed American confidence. -
Stragetic Bombing Attack Battle of Midway
Allied bombers launched nonstop attacks against Germany. British planes dropped massive bombs on German cities. The goal was to destroy Germany's capacity for war. It caused a high casualty rate, but it helped carry war succesfully into Germany. -
Japan dominates southest Asia
Japanese forces attacked and conquered securing oil and rubber suppliesand brought Southeast Asia and western Pacific securely under Japanese control. -
Stalingard under seige
Hitler's forces penetrated deep into Soviet territory killing and capturing, but weren't able to conque the Soviet union. Hitler then wanted to control the rich oil fields. so he needed to conquer Stalingard. They fought block-by-block. The Germans then finally surrendered after a long battle. -
Allies invasion of North Africa
Goals motivated Allies into North Africa. British won major victory in El Alameinin Egypt and beegan to push upward. Allied troops landed in Morocco and Algeria and moved to key Germany positions. In May, 1943, Germany and Italy troops surrendered. -
U-boats controlled the Atlantic
German U-boats patrolled the Atlantic sinking 3,500 merchant ships and killing 10 thousand seamen. New inventions helped Allies start winning. -
Italy surrenders to the Allies
British and American armies made landings in Sicily and began advancing across the island. Allies got complete control of western Mediterranean making Italy surrender. -
D-Day invasion
Allies hit German forces. They attempted to destroy German communication and transportation and soften Nazi beach defenses. More than one million Allied troops landed in Normandy later. -
Liberation of Paris
Allies were on the move in the west. They liberated Paris. Hotler ordered to destroy Paris, but was disobeyed and the Allies kept advancing. -
Battle of the Bulge
Major German offensive campaign. The surprise attack caught the Allied forces completely off guard. United States forces bore the brunt of the attack and incurred their highest casualties for any operation during the war. Germany sustained heavy losses. -
Mussolini execution
He fled Milan, where he had been based, and tried to escape to the Swiss border. He was captured by local partisans and shot dead. -
Adolf Hitler's suicide
Hitler was horrified by what had happened to Mussolini and was afraid of capture and so he shot himself and his wife also killed himself just two days after Mussolini's death. -

A research and development project that produced the first nuclear weapons during World War II. It was led by the United States with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada. -
Atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki
U.S pilots dropped an atomic bomb over Hiroshima. 344,000 died. Three days later they dropped another atomiv bomb in Nagasaki killing 35,000 residents. Japan then surrendered.
