The Nazi army defeated the French Maginot Line and German air support put an end to French resistance. After the Germans took over Northern France many french people fled to the South. Hitler wanted to make his victory over France public so he forced France to sign an armistice treaty. With the signing of the treaty France was divided into two parts: Nazi Occupied France and Vichy France. -

The Holocaust Hitler used the Jewish population as a scapegoat to explain Germany's economic problems. The Jews were one of the few peoples who were propsering during this time of German hardship and they soon became the public enemy. -
Operation Barbarossa
Hitler invades the Soviet Union.
The start of the operation was successful. But the German's supplies ran low, the Soviets launched counter attacks and German forces were no match for the Soviet's cold winter. The failure of Operation Barbarossa created a two front war for Germany. Hitler now had to fight off the Soviet Union along with the rest of the Allied Forces. -
United States Enters the War
The United States stayed out of the Second World War for as long as possible. It was not until Japan bombed the naval base at Pearl Harbor that the United States decided to join the war. -

To end the war with Japan the Unied States spent time researching and developing an atomic bomb. The United States dropped two atomic bombs in Japan one in Hiroshima and one in Nagasaki. These bombings had devestating effects to the Japanese population and the country as a whole. -
