Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima
American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima in Japan. The explosion immediately killed an estimated 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure. -
Atomic Bombing Nagasaki
Three days after Hiroshima, an atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing an estimated 40,000 people. Japan’s Emperor announced the country would be surrendering in World War II after the bomb.
