Hitler becomes chancellor
In January of 1933 Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany by the President of the Weimar Republic. Over the next two years Hitler became President and soon enough in 1935 became the sole voice for Germany. -
The beginning
After Hitler and Stalin signed the German Nonaggression Pact, Hitler invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. Two days later Britain and France declared war on Germany. -
Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941 Japanese air forces attacked the major U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This attacked killed 2,300 troops. A day later Congress declared war on Japan, and that was when we entered the war. -

America began an offensive campaign during 1942. In August America had invaded Guadalcanal and by May 1943 had freed the Aleutians. -

North Africa
American and British forces had defeated the Germans and Italians in North Africa. Shortly after in 1943, Italy's government fell, but fighting against Germans in Italy would continue until 1945 -
Island Hopping
Americans took back many Japanese held islands on their way to Japan. -
D-Day
On June 6, 1944 more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along the French Coastline to fight the Germans. The Allies were able to defeat the Germans in France and moved along Europe to slowly defeat Hitler. -
End of the War
On May 8, 1945 Germany surrendered. Although Hitler had already committed suicide on April 30. In August the war with Japan ended
