    Germany Attacks Poland
    Hitler sent a German criminal dressed up in Polish clothing to the German Polish border. He was then shot. On September 1, 1939 Hitler declared the Poland has attacked Germany. He used the dead criminal as proof. The Germans then launched an attack on Poland. The Germans used the military technique blitzkrieg, which means "lightening war." The Germans won.

    War Declared on Germay
    Great Britain and France declared war on Germany. They became the Allies.
  • The Netherland and Belgium Fall

    The Netherland and Belgium Fall
    The Germans made their expected attack on France. A group of Germans quickly took out the Netherland and then went into Belgium. They were met with Belgian, British, and French units, but that didn't stop them. By early June many Allied Ssoldiers had been trapped by the Germans.

    A strong nationalist name Tojo pressure Japan's government into resigning. Then, Tojo took over the country. The United States could no longer compromise with Japan.

    The Japanese attacked the U.S. Pacific Fleet. 20 Warships and 200 Aircrafts were destroyed. 2,400 Americans were killed, and isolationism was destroyed.

    Army Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle led a group of Americans on a dangerous air raid in Tokyo and a couple more Japanese cities.

    Aircraft carriers replaced battleships as the most significant weapon. 2 pronged attack. The Japanese were hoping to lure the U.S. fleet into the open and destroy it.

    The Japanese attacked early morning of June 4, 1942. The first stage was an air attack. The Americans were waiting for them and fought off the air raid.

    101st Airborne parachuted behind the enemy lines. Hitler didn't send reinforcements because he thought it was a trick. After a week of fighting the Allies gained control of a 60-mile strip. 10,000 Allied casualties.

    This battle was the last major German offensive. Hitler refused to give up. The Germans created a large bulge in the Allied lines, but the offensive eventually failed.

    Allied troops invaded Okinawa. Japanese lost 110,000 troops. Over 12,000 Americans died.

    FDR dies suddenly and vice president Harry Truman takes his place.
