  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Japanese attacked America because they were worried that if America joined the Allies they would be the deciding factor in the war. The Japanese thought that if they would attack the American naval base the Americans would not join the wrong. But they were wrong. The Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor was the reason for America Joining the war.
  • Doolittle Raid

    Doolittle Raid
    The U.S. planned to bomb Tokyo in the middle of the night. But the planes were detected early so the bombers had to do the raid in the day. The planes did not have big enough gas tanks so the bombers had to crash land in China and be picked up later.
  • Midway

    Midway
    The U.S needed to win the battle of Midway because it was the perfect distance from Japan. We would be able to launch flight missions and have our soldiers come back home instead of crash landing in China. During the battle Japan lost four aircraft carriers and 250 planes. The U.S. only lost one aircraft carrier and a handfull of planes.
  • Teheran Conference

    Teheran Conference
    The Tehran Conference was the first time that the big three met face to face. They met to decide how to defeat Germany. They finally decided to go through with operation overlord or d-day.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    On D-Day, the Allies stormed five different beaches at Normandy, France. Those beaches were Sword, Omaha, Utah, Gold, and Juno. Omaha beach was one of the worst beaches to land on. Some of the soldiers called the day "the longest day in history".
  • Operation Valkyrie

    Operation Valkyrie
    Colonel Claus von Struffenberg attempted at murdering Hitler. He planted a bomb in his private bunker and set it off. His plan did not work however. It ended up killing or wounding twenty people but none of them were Hitler. Hitler took it as a sign that he had to keep on with the war.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    The Battle of the Bulge was Hitler's last attempt a victory. He tried to surprise the Allies in France but it did not have the effects that he wanted. He hoped to drive a wedge in the Allied front but instead he lost the rest of his army.
  • Hitler's Suicide

    Hitler was a physical and emotional wreck by the time the allies reached Berlin. He was paranoid and he kept having mad delusions of vicory. But when he learned that loss was inevitable he decided to kill himslef alongside his wife and kids and all his advisors.
  • Germany's Surrender

    Germany's Surrender
    At the end of the war, Germay surrenderd in a French school house that doubled as Eisenhower's headquarters. After Hitler died the remaining leaders of the Nazis accepted the terms of unconditional surrender.
  • Hiroshima Bombing

    Hiroshima Bombing
    President Truman decided that dropping a bomb on one of Japans largest cities would save more lives than sending in a full raid. The initial blast of the bomb killed 60000 of Hiroshima's 344000 residents. But even more people were killed after because of the radiation that the bomb gave off.
