United States Enters World War II
Pearl Harbor was U.S. Navy's main pacific base. Japan attacked in two waves, and attacked aircraft carriers and battleships first. The objective was to prevent U.S. from influencing Japan's war effort in Southeast Asia. After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, the U.S. declared war on Japan and later on Germany and Italy. -
Internment of Japanese Americans Begins
Some of the first orders stated that only Japanese Americans must leave DMZs, but leaders objected. The Department of War then initiated a policy of internment. Japanese American men, women, and children were imprisoned temporarily because they were members of a specific group. -

The Battle of Stalingrad ended Nazi advances in Europe. The long Battle of Slaingrad ended with the German troops surrender. Of the 91,000 prisoners taken by the Soviets, only about 5,000 prisoners eventually survived and returned to Germany. -
Allied Forces Invade Italy
American and British armies made landings in Sicily sperate and began to advance across the island before teaming up in the north. On september 3, 1943, Italy surrendered to the Allies. Five weeks later, Italy declared war on Germany. -
D-Day Landing in France
D-Day: invasion opens second front in Europe, paving way for final defeat on Germany. More than 11,000 planes paved the way for the Allies to hit Germany in full force by attempting to destroy German communication and transportation networks and soften Nazi beach defenses. -
