Invasion marked the beginning of WWII in Europe.This invasion happened one week after the signing of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, and ended on 6 October 1939 with Germany and the Soviet Union dividing and annexing the whole of Poland. -
German invasions of Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg
German forces invaded Norway and Denmark. Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger and Naravik were rapidly taken. Navarik was retaken by a British force, but the British were soon forced to withdraw from the town.In April 1940 germany invaded Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.When the French made the Maginot Line it caused the Germans to attacke the Low Countries. The Netherlands surrendered in four days, after massive German attacks on Rotterdam. -
Evacuation of Dunkirk
The two commnaders of the armies were General Lord Gort and General Maxime Weygand who approx had 400,000 men.Operation Dynamo,as it was known was the evacuation of around 350,000 British, French and Belgian troops from Dunkirk,that enabled the Allies to continue the war and was a major boost to British morale.By 4 June, when the operation ended, 198,000 British and 140,000 French and Belgian troops had been saved, but virtually all of their heavy equipment had been abandoned. -
Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain took place between August and September 1940. After the success of Blitzkrieg, the evacuation of Dunkirk and the surrender of France, Britain was by herself. The Battle of Britain remains one of the most famous battles of World War Two.The purose of this battle campaign was to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force, especially Fighter Command.This ended on October 31,1940. -
