Selective Service and Training Act
This act is also known as the Burke-Wadsworth Act, it required men from ages twenty-one to thirty-five to register for the draft and eighteen to forty-five for military service so all men eighteen to sixty-five registered. -
Executive Order 9066
This order gave the military power to place Japanese Americans in military prisons; it also applied to smaller numbers of the residents of the U.S. -
Death March
After the defenders of the Philipines surrendered, 78,000 American prisoners were forced to march. Sick, exhausted, and starving they marched 65 miles to a prison camp. Almost 10,000 troops died while on this march, giving it the name "The Bataan Death March". -
Doolittle Raids
This was the first air raid by the US to strike Japanese Homelands during World War II. This boosted the opportunity and motivation for Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. -
Midway Island
American soldiers left a clever trap for four Japanese carriers to be destructed, the trap broke the back of the empire's naval and air power. -
Battle of Monte Cassino
Allies fought against the Germans to breakthrough the Winter Line and seize Rome. This took place in Italy and lasted until May of the same year. -
General Eisenhower
General Eisenhower was in charge of keeping the British and American commanding allies together. -
Normandy
To start off the invasion, 1,100 American planes landed troops throughout Normandy with orders to seize key rail and road junctions and to ambush German units. -
Last Stand
German troops launched a counter-offensive along the border of Belgium and Luxembourg. This was the biggest and bloodiest battle American soldiers fought. -
Kamikaze
Wanting to defend their honor, the Japanese military used every weapon they had, when they couldn't handle the weight of the war any longer, they resulted to suicide; known as kamikaze. -
Sucker Punch
The surpise attack, known as the Last Stand, was launched by the Germans on the the U.S., which gave them a small upper-hand in the war. Hitler's target was to divide the Britsh and American alliance. -
Battle of Bulge
The Germans temporarily broke through the allied lines only holding off the war for six weeks. -
V-E Day ( Victory of Europe Day)
Both Britain and America celebrated when German troops finally laid down their arms and surrended to avoid imprisonment. -
V-J Day (Victory of Japan Day)
Along with Europe, Japan surrendered to the allies, finally ending WWII. -
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
These were the first and only events that contained nuclear weapons in war to date. The first bomb, which happened in Hiroshima, was called Little Boy; this bomb killed 66,000 people. and the second bomb, which took place in Nagasaki, was called Fat Man killed 80,000 people. A few days after the bombing, Japan surrendered to the allies; this day was known as V-J Day.
