After violating the Treaty of Versailles, the German troops occupy the Rhineland. When Germans arrived, they were welcomed and praised there. -
Franco
Franco is declared head of Spain soon after the Spain Civil war erupts because of rebellion within the country. -
Stalin reigns
Joseph Stalin declares the Red Army purge in the Soviet Union. He killed many people in his own country and believed in communism. He later had a Non Progressive Act with Hitler, but that pact would later be broken. -
Anschuluss
Germany has taken over Austria-Hungary. The Austria people are very happy, and greet Hitler with open arms. -
Germany occupies Sudtenland
Hitler asked for this country when he had a meeting with Roosevelt and Churchill. They gave him the land thinking that is all he wanted, but this was only the beginning of his plans to take over most of Europe. He now could easily take over Czechoslovakia, which he did. -

Nazis sign a Pact of Steel with Italy, and later with the Soviet Union. -

Official Start of World War II. Germany invaded Poland, along with the Soviet Union, dictated by Stalin. -

The United States, under Franklin Roosevelt, declares isolationism, and stays out of the war. -
Blitzreig
The Germans decide to blitz against Britian to destroy them, but instead, the British succeed, and the German army decides to attack other countries for natural resources. -
Axis Powers
The Axis Powers was formed with Germany, Italy, and Japan. These nations would work together to take over the world. -
Roosevelt re-elected
Roosevelt was re-elected because he kept first kept people out of the war. He also wanted to profect America, because he knew America would later be involved. -
Lend Lease
Roosevelt creates the Lend Lease Act lends, and leases money to the Allied Forces such as the British. -
Declaring War
The German and Italy forces have declared war by invading the Pacific and Atlantic. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
The Japenese get too confident, and attack the United States, by invading Pearl Harbor. They destroyed the Navy base, at 7am. -
Battle of Coral Sea
The goal was to stop the advance on Australia. In this battle the aircraft carrier replaces battleships. This was a very aggressive battle, but the Allies pushed and were able to save Australia from joining the war. -
Midway
This was the turning point of the war. This famous battle was fought by the air forces, and by the Navy using aircraft carriers. This was a two pronged attack. It was by the Aleutian Islands near Alaska, and at Midway in two small islands NW of Hawaii. -
Manhattan Project
This project was the race for who could create the atomic bomb. Many scientists and people helped out. Einstein is an example. The U.S. tested the bomb in New Mexico. The Japanese refused to surrender, causing the invasion to be costly. -
Guadalcanal
This day is when the U.S. takes the control of the Japanese airbase. This battle takes place for six months. We wanted the airbase to stop the Japanese from accessing Allied territory. -
Stalingrad
Germans pushed the Soviet Union and captured many industiral centers and grain fields for oil. Soviet Union refused to surrender and the Germans refused as well. Finally they surrendered in January of 1943. -
D-Day
The day the Allied Forces, U.S, British, and Soviet Union, come together and attack. Formally called D-Day. This battle took place so the Allies could provide supplies and amunition to our men. Battle at Normandy. -
Battle of Leyte Gulf
A Phillippine battle. (MacArthur). Most decisive naval engagement in the Pacific. The Allies were eventually able to enter Manilla. -
Liberation of Paris
The Allies were suffering trying to save France, until the Russians came. They saved Paris along with us, and we were able to liberate France completely from war. -
Battle of the Bulge
This was Hitler's last major attack. He used tanks to try to regain France near the Rhineland where he was lead to believe he had the most power. Hitler lost the battle, but he was known for putting all his effort into it. It was called the "Bulge," because whe Hitler sent his troops to attack, it looked like a bulge. -
The Yalta Conference
This conference was held for Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill to discuss the plan for postwar peace. They each discussed their own views and how they could benefit their countries. -
Iwo Jima
Lead by the U.S. Marines. It was extremely bloody, and killed thousands of soldiers. The goal was to establish long-range bombing. -
Okinawa
Largest landing force in Pacific history. After we bombed Iwo Jima, we bombed Okinawa, where Japan retreated to the South. They then attacked five days later causing it to be the bloodiest battle in the Pacific. Japanese fought to the death and killed 49,000 troops. -
Victory in Europe Day
Victory is finally delcared in Europe, as the Germans surrender to the Allied Forces to give up France, and end World War II. Germany officially surrendered on May 7, 1945, but on this day it became official. -

The United Nation Charter is signed in San Fransisco -
The attack of Hiroshima
The U.S. was told by Truman to drop the atomic bomb on this city to destroy the increase of Japenese soldiers. This killed 78,000 people. -
Attack of Nagasaki
This occured shortly after the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Truman decided to drop the bomb again, and in the process it killed 40,000 Japenese. -
Surrender
The Japenese surrender on the Missouri, and World War II is officially declared over. The Allied Forces have won. -
Japenese Surrender
Earlier on August 14, 1945, the Japenese Surrender, and on this day, they sign an agreement of their surrender.
