Three million tons of the iron ore was transported through Norwegian ice-free port of Narvik. As long as Norway remained neutral, ore ships could pass through the ice-free port of Narvik untouched. The neutrality of Norway was an asset to the Germans.

The main German attack went through the Ardennes Forest in southeastern Belgium and northern Luxembourg.     The Holocaust began with Hitler's rise of power. During this time, more than 6 million Jews and millions of other groups were killed by the Nazi's of Germany. While all the murders were devastating to native populations, None were so devastating than that of the Jews. During this period, 5,000 Jewish communities were wiped out and the total that died represented 1/3 of all Jewish people alive at that time.

    The Battle of the Coral Sea took place in the waters southwest of the Solomon Islands. This was one of the first airforce battles of World War II. The diversions of Japanese resources during this battle had started the Battle of Midway, which was one month later.     Because Russia was weak and were nearly out of soldiers, Germany invaded Stalingrad. There were 40,000 troops in Stalignrad but most were ill-equiped. The Japanese were running out of supplies. they were hungary and had no food. The fleet was lost, and the merchant shipping could not leave home waters or sail the few possessions still held without having submarine or mine attack.
