F.D.R was elected president and determined to end the Great Depression. He introduced the New Deal which created many new jobs and homes all across America. F.D.R pulled America out of the Depression temporarily, and served as a great leader for America in the 1930s. -
Hitler Becomes Chancellor of Germany
Adolf Hitler made his way up the political ladder of Germany. He become chancellor in 1933. This allowed Hitler to change laws and manipulate the government to his desires. Hitler used this power to enslave and kill millions of people, and also to give himself full power over Germany. -
Nuremberg Laws
The Nuremberg Laws were created to make it so that Jews legally had no political, social, or economical power in Germany. Hitler wanted to discriminate and completely segregate all Jews. Hitler used his new power to take away power from any race, idea, or physical trait he did not like. -

Germany Invades Austria
Austria was one of the first countries the Germany invaded. When Hitler went to Austria, all of the people there already supported him and his political beliefs. This was a non-violent invasion that left Austria Axis-controlled. -
Britain's Appeasement of Germany
Britain did not want a war to break out in Europe. Chamberlain tried to soother Germany and prevent them from starting a war. Hitler did not listen, and continued what he wanted to do. -
Kristallnacht
This was the start of the next level of Hitler's control over Jews in Europe. Kristallnacht marks the start of when Hitler started commiting genocide. Kristallnacht was when Hitler ordered men to go find and kill any Jews they saw. -

This showed America's support for the Allies. The Lend-Lease Act shipped out over $50 billion worth of supplies for WWII to Britain, China, Russia, and France. The U.S.A supported the war without directly being in it. -

Tuskegee Airmen Formed
The Tuskegee Airmen allowed African-Americans to truly participate in the war effort. This is one of the first times in American history that African-Americans have been allowed to really fight on the front lines, and be treated equally as whites in war. -
Japan Bombs Pearl Harbor
This event occurred when Japan sent many bombers to Pearl Harbor on Oahu to bomb and destroy the U.S base there. This event sent America directly into WWII. Japan attacked us and forced us to take action and intervene in Europe and Asia. -
The Nazis Implement "The Final Solution"
Hitler was tired of putting Jews to work and cutting off all of their supplies. He wanted a quick, clean, and effecient way to commit mass genocide. Hitler decided that he would take all of his "undesirables", and put them on a train. Without telling them, he shipped them to camps where they would be put to death. -
Rosie The Riveter
Women also participated in WWII, just in a different way. As all the men were on the battlefield, women had to take up jobs that usually only men could get. Rosie The Riveter was a symbol of women coming out and doing what men traditionally do. This changed the role of women forever. -
Japanese American Incarceration
This event marks the moment that the U.S put fear over individual rights. The U.S put all Japanese, even American citizens with Japanese heritage, into work camps. Japanese-Americans lost everything, and nothing protected them from re-location and segregation. -
Bataan Death March
The Japanese forces crumpled U.S - Phillippines forces and forced all of them to walk 85 miles in 6 days with very little food and water. Those who couldn't do it were shot. This proved as a terrible moment for the allies as they were crushed and weakened by this horrible event. -
The Manhattan Project
The Manhattan Project was a top secret project to build an atomic bomb. The atomic bomb would be used if we needed to kill many enemies without being killed by them. -
Battle of Midway
When the U.S won the Battle of Midway, it proved as a huge turning point in the war. The Allies were now fighting back throught the Pacific, and going straight towards Japanese homeland. -

The battle at Guadalcanal was won by the Allies as one of there first island hopping battles. The Allies were biting back and slowly turning the tides against the Japanese. -
Germany Surrenders Stalingrad
When the Soviet Union captured Stalingrad, it gave the Allies a new attack position on Germany. This greatly supported the war in Europe, and it alllowed the Allies to attack from the East. -
D-Day
When the Allies invaded France, it gave them a western attack on Germany. This allowed for Allies to go safely from Britain to France, and also allowed the Allies to attack from the West as well as the South from El Alamein, and the East from Stalingrad. -
Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge showed the true determination of the Allies. When the Allies were attacked by HItler, we fought through it and won the battle. The battle was especially difficult because it was snowing, and freezing cold outside. The Allied forces were also unprepared for Hitler's vast army. -
Yalta Conference
At the Yalta Conference in the Soviet Union, Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill all discussed future plans and strategies for the war. The Allied leaders got together and planned there way to victory in Europe. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
When the U.S battled through the Pacific, one of the key islands they took was Iwo Jima. This island, along with Okinawa, served as a great invasion base and bombing base for attacks on Japan to eliminate their defenses. -
Battle of Okinawa
The U.S had to take Iwo Jima and Okinawa to get good positioning against Japan. From these two islands the U.S could send out bombing runs and also send in battleships in preparation for an invasion against Japan. -

Formation of the United Nations
50 nations met in San Francisco to discuss a new peacekeeping organization to replace the weak and ineffective League of Nations. All 50 nations ratified the charter, creating the U.N. Roosevelt urged Americans not to turn their backs on the world again. The U.S is a member of the United Nations. -
Germany Surrenders
When the Allied forces advanced towards Berlin, Hitler realized he could no longer battle against the powerful Allies. He surrendered and shot himself. The Allies had won the war in Europe, and now there was only Japan to worry about. -
Potsdam Conference
The Allies got together to discuss post-war policies in Europe. The Allies decided to put Nazi war criminals on trial. -
Atomic Bombs Dropped On Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The U.S decided to drop two atomic bombs on major industrial cities of Japan instead of trying to invade Japan. The U.S Government wanted to make Japan surrender with the least amount of American casualties. -

Nuremberg Trials
Many Nazis were charged with crimes against humanity. Many of Hitler's top officials were charged. 19 were found guilty, and 12 were sentenced to death. The Allies believed people are responsible for their actions, even in wartime. -
Marshall Plan
Congress apporved Secretary of State George Marshall's plan to help boost European economies. The U.S gave more than $13 billion to help European economies grow once again. The U.S wanted the world to be at peace, and wanted every country to have an outstanding and healthy economy.
