Battle of Britain
August 1940-October 1940
The Battle of Britain was Germany vs. Britain, and it took place in the British Isles. Germany bombed British ship yards, such are Portsmouth. They fought entirely by air. The Germans plan was to takover the British Air Force (BAF) through air superiority. The outcome was Britain won the battle, maintained their air defenses and did not need to surrender. The Germans moved on to the Soviet Union. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan vs. United States
Japan bombs the U.S. militar/naval base in Oahu, HI. 2,400 US dead, 2 U.S. ships sunk and multiple planes and ships destroyed. This tragic event happend becasue Japan was upset that the U.S. had stopped trade with Japan and had frozen money assets of Japan in U.S. banks. The outcome of this attack was the US declaring war on Japan and therefore joining Word War II.

Operation Barbarossa
Soviet Union vs. Germany
The event occured in the Soviet Union.
Germany invaded the Soviet Union and set up attacks across a border of 2,900 Km. They destroyed nearly 4,000 aircrafts. More than 800,000 Soviets were killed. Germany wanted more natural resources as well as the Soviet's land. The overall outcome was that the Russians won but also lost many lives. -
Bataam Death March
The Bataan Dealth March was the forced transfer of American and Fillipino POWS by the Japanese army after Battle of Bataan in the Phillipines. The Japanese were unprepared and too disorgainized to transport so many POWS. This lead to butality and abuse of these prisoners. The outcome of this dealth march was that too many men lost their lives and it created fury in America and huge Anti-Japanese sentiment. -
Operation Overload/"D-Day"
Allies vs Germany
D-Day occured in the town of Normandy, France along the coast.
The allie countires of the England, the USA and Canada came together to defeat the Nazi's. The Allies were deternined to end WW ll and to put a stop to the Nazi domination in Europe. In the end, the allies won and the Nazi's lost control of most European countries. -
Yalta Conference
Feb 4-11, !945
The US, UK, and Soviet Union brought their leaders into a meeting. Stallin, Roosevelt, and Churchhill met to confirm a postwar conference on what would happen to Europe after WWII. The meeting took place in Crimea, Ukaine and it was conducted to discuss how to restablished the war-torn nation. The outcomes were that Stalin agreed to participate in the United Nations, they determined how to divide up Germany between Allies and Stalin agreed to enter into war with Japan. -
Battle of Iwo Jima (Feb. 19-March 26 1945)
USA vs. Japan
The United States Armed forces set the goal to fight and capture the the Japenese island of Iwo Jima. They wanted the airfields on the island so that they could serve as a launch site to attack the Japanese main islands. THis was the first American attack on a Japanese home terrirtory. Despite severe casualites on both sides and a "ight to the dealth "attitude by the Japanese, the American soldiers, navy and marines claimed this major victory! -
V-E Day
V-E Day is known as the official or clebrated "Victory in Europe Day". The key countries were Germany vs. Allies.
On March 7th, 1945 Allie Comander's Bradley and Montgomery crossed the Rhine RIver in Germany and overann Western Germany. This defeat as well as the dealth of Hitler in Berlin, caused the German's to submit an unconditonal surrendered and it became offical on May 8, 1945. This signaled the victory of the Alllies in WWll. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bomb
USA vs. Japan.
On August 6, 1945 the B-29 Bomber the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb ever used in during wartime, on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. President Truman was intent upon ending the war so that the USA did not have to invade the Japanese mainland. As a result of the bomb 80,000 people were killed and many more died later due to this atomic weapon. This event ended the war with Japan. -
V-J Day
V-J Day or Victory over Japan day is the day when the Americans accepted the surrender of the Japanese to officially end WWll.
Emperor Hirohito accepted the conditons of the Postdam Declation and it was official signed signaling the end of fighting. -
Battle of the Bulge
Germany vs. the countires UK, USA, Canada, Belgium and Lux.
The full date of the Battle of the Bulge is December 16, 1944- January 25, 1945. The event was a major German effort held in the forested regions of Belgium and Luxemberg to split the American and British Allies and to force a negociated peace treaty upon them. Hitler wanted to gain control of the Western Europe so he could move on to the East. General Patton's army was strong and helped the Allies win this extremely bloody battle.
