    The AtlanticOperation Barbarossa was Germany's invasion into Russia. the significance of this of that prior to the invasion Hitler had made a non-agression pact with Stalin. This brought Russia into the war and on the side of the allies. If the invasion did not happen then Russia would probably just have remained neutral throughout the war.

    Military History Germany pushed into Russia intending to take over the country. The Russians were pushed back all the way to their capital of Moscow. The Russians knew that this would have to be there last stand and that they were in a now or never situation so the Russians fought back and finally stopped the invasion from the Germans, ultimately stopping the momentum of the invasion.

    After being stopped in Moscow Hitler focused his attention south with the intension of taking over oil fields. The Russians sent down a defence focre to prevent this. The Soviets captured a German field marshall, and the German force later surrendered.This was a turning point in the war because it changed the outlook of the eastern front.

    After fighting in the Battle of Kursk the Soviets for the first time had defeated a German force in the summer. But not at a cost the Soviets lost 200,000 men. This battle gave Russia clear control of the Eastern front.

    The United States finally entered the European theater of the war in 1944. In an effort to regain the allies' land the United States sent military ships accross the English channel to the beaches of Normandy France where German troops were awaiting them. The allies prevailed through a brutal battle. This was significant because it marked the entree of the USA to the war, and it was the first time Germany had lost land on the western front.

    In April of 1945 American and Russian troops had pushed their way to Berlin and had surrounded the city. At this point it was near certain that the allies were going to defeat the Germans. Hitler had seen that he had no chance and instead of accepting humiliation and probably a brutal death, he commited suicide. By May a German field Marshall signed surrenderring papers. This formally took Germany out of the War.
