German Invasion of Poland
Germany's invasion of Poland was the spark of WWII. This is what pulled many countires into the war. Britain and France both made a pact with Poland, saying if Poland was invaded they would declare war on Germany. Poland fell in a few weeks to the German army. Information-

Operation Barbarossa
Operation Barbarossa was Hitlers blitzerig attack on the Soviet Union. 4.5 million axis troops invaded the Soviet Union suprising the soviets and causing massive causilities. This ended the non agression pact between Germany, and the Soviet Union. Information-

Battle of Moscow

Also know as "Operation Typhoon" the German army encirceld Moscow and took over the city. The Soviet army had set up defenses in the towns of Vyazma and Bryansk, but were quickly defeated. The Soviets held off the Germans for months of hard fighting. This seven month long battle, gave the Russians time to mobilize there forces and set up a defense. Information:

The Battle of Stalingrad was a devestating defeat for the German side. The enire German army of over 1,000,000 was either killed or captured. This was an important battle because it marked the turning point in the war. After this battle the Germans were in full retreat. Information:

The Battle of Kursk
This was the German counter-attack to the defeat in Stalingrad. The Russian army had set up strong defenses. This was one of the greatest armor battles in the war. The Soviet forces won the Battle of Kursk but with great losses. This sent the German army to retreat even further away from Russia. Information:

D-Day
The United States, Great Britain, and Canada, sent over 160,000 men to invaded Normandy beaches in France. This was to gain a foothold in France and start pusing the Nazis back on the western front. Information:

Battle of the Bulge
Hitler ordered a massive counteroffensive, in an attempt to break up allied forces. The American army held out against the German army, but lost over 100,000 men. This was the costliest battle ever fought by the U.S army. Information:

The Battle of Berlin
The Soviet Army had shelled Berlin for days. Stalin was determined to take Berlin before the Americans, and he ordered the military to rush into Berlin. This caused many more casulities than were necessary, over 70,000 Soviets died. Less than 100,000 Germans were ordered to make a last stand, against the million Soviet soldiers. The Soviets took over Berlin and the German army surrendered, ending the war in Europe. -

Hiroshima atomic bombing
Hirsohima was destoryed completly by the Americans atomic bomb. Some 80,000 people were killed in the explosion and 10,000 more from radiation. Information:

Nagasaki Atomic bombing
Japan had not surrendered after the bombing of Hiroshima. The second atomic bomb was then dropped on Nagasaki, killing 40,000 people. Japan then surrendered, ending World War II. Information:
