World War I
World War I - 28th July 1914 - 11 .November 1918
The assassination of Franz Ferninand by Gavrilo Princip was the catalyst to WW1. The whole country of Serbia was blammed & so Austria-Hungary declared war on them. Germany declares war on Russia,Britain and France support Russia. Italy enters the war & joins The Triple Alliance along with Austria-Hungary. Hitler is drafted into the German army where he will witness horrific scenes of war. He will become de-sensitised to violence and brutal hatred. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles is the infamous peace treaty of the first world war. It brought an end to the war against the Triple Alliance. According to the treaty -signed by many countries including Britain, France, Russia, Japan, Italy & China- Germany was responsible for WW1. As part of the treaty, Germany must pay reparations to certain countries as punishment for it's major role in the war. -
The Great Depression/Economy Crash
The Great Depression - 29th October 1929 - mid 1930s.
Poverty and despair raged across the globe as the devestation of the Wall Street crash worsened. Families were left homeless, malnutrition & disease ran amuck, unemployment rates sky-rocketed. -
Hitler appointed chancellor by Hindenburg
Adolf Hitler took the reigns of Germany's 14-year-old democratic republic. The day is marked in infamy as it is the day Hitler rises to a position of great power; a position he will use as a fatal weapon against the freedom of the many countries surrounding Germany. -
Munich agreement signed
On 30th September, 1938 Neville Chamberlain -Prime Minister of England- & Adolf Hitler -Chancellor of Germany- signed a settlement permitting Germany to claim Sudentenland, the area along Czechoslovakia's borders. It was a failed attempt at appeasement on Chamberlain's behalf as Hitler soon after began his domination of Europe. -
Hitler's invasion of Europe begins
16th March 1939 marks the date of the first country invaded by Germany per instruction from Hitler. Only a few months later, Hitler conquered Poland with the approval of Joseph Stalin. In the months that followed an overwhelming amount of ground was covered in terms of conquest and the invasion of Europe for Germany thanks to Hitler. Czechoslovakia, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Yugoslavia and Greece were all successfully subjugated during WW2. -
The Battle of Britain
10th July - 31st October 1940.The Battle of Britain encompassed four phases:
1. Hitler's Luftwaffe bombers attack British ports.
2. Bombing raids were concentrated on RAF airfields.
3. The infamous London Blitz was the heavy bombing of London from September 7th in the hope to destroy the Brits morale.
4.Night Bombing.
The RAF defended the skies and by October 31 the raids had ceased. -
Pearl Habour
In an idiotic attempt to crush the US before it could fight back, Japan launched a surpise attack on the US pacific fleet at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. Total US casualties: 2,403 dead and 1,178 wounded; Total Japan casualties: 55 and 9 midget submarine crew. -
Britain and USA declare war on Japan
Britain and American declare war on Japan as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbour just the day before. Japan bit off more than they could chew as they were already raging a war against China. -
Battle of Kokoda
The Battle of Kokoda began in late July and was perhaps the most significant battle fought by the Australians in WW2. Australian troops were forced to repell a Japanese invasion force invading Papua New Guinnea in an attempt to take over Asia. Japan's next step in their strategy for Asian domination was Australia. To prevent that from happening Australia placed troops in Papua New Guinnea to drive the Japanese out. -
D-Day
D-Day is a day that goes down in military legend. It is the day the Allies attacked Germany's forces in Normandy, Western France. A major turning point in the war and a sign that indicated the eventual victory of the Allies in WW2. -
Hitler commits suicide
Adolf Hitler commits suicide in his bomb shelter to avoid facing his punishment for the numerous war crimes he has committed and been responsible for. Eva Braun, his recently made wife, committed suicide alongside her husband. -
Atomic bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki
In an effort to provoke a surrender to the Allies by Japan, the US conducted the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Mass devestation and deaths were a result of this attrocity. The effects of the radiation were felt by millions and many died or grew gravely ill in the days and weeks that followed the bombings. On August 15th, six days after the bombing of Nagasaki, Japan surrendered, signing the Instrument of Surrender on September 2nd, officially ending WW2.
