The Nazis using concentration camps for jews, gypies, and slavs was important because it was the beginning of an uncomparable genocide. Millions were put in these camps. Eventually, extending from these camps came death camps, in which millions of people were killed spanning from 1933 to the early part of 1945. -
Nazis and Soviet Union Sign Non-Agression Pact
The pact was signed between the Soviet Union of now Russia and Nazi Germany. The pact stated that the two empires will not attack one another. This was good for both sides becaus the Nazis wouldn't have to fight a two-front war and the Soviet Union was still recovereing from WWI. This was significant though, because eventually the pact was broken by Germany. -
Germany Invades Poland with Blitzkrieg.
Both Soviet Union and Nazi-Germany wanted Poland to stay nuetral or under their control. Nazi-Germany were the first ones to make a move as the bombed Poland with their Blitzkrieg making Poland more vulnerable and easier for Nazi ground soldiers to invade and take control. After the attack, the Soviet Union rushes into to Poland to stop the invasion. By not breaking the pact, Nazi-Germany and Soviet Union decide to split Poland, but Nazi-Germany would eventually take all of Poland. -
Great Britain and France Declare War on Germany
This event was significant because after a few conflicts and the prediction of future war, Britain and France declare war on Germany. Eventually, the Battle of Britain would evolve killing many innocent British civilians. This would also cause the United States to enter the war later. -
Germany Launches the "Blitz" On London.
After Great Britain and France declare war on Germany, Germany launched the Blitzkrieg on Great Britain and cities like London were severely damaged.This is what happened in London, and many innocent people were killed. It lasted for a couple of weeks and many people had to live underground and in subway stations to survive. The aftermath was severe as many buildings were destroyed and thousands and thousands of people were killed. This greatly reduced Great Britain's government power. -
United States Sign the Lend-Lease Act with Allies
While the United States still decided to remain neutral, they still wanted to support their Allies. They signed the Lend-Lease Act with their Allies. The Lend-Lease Act was an act that stated that the United States will provide food, ammunition, weapons, and other supplies to the U.S. Allies. This started to turn the war around. It made many of the allie countries able to fight with more power and it overall decreased the Germans advancement. -
Nazis Invade the Soviet Union
After signing the Non-Agression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union, peace between the two only lasted for a short bit. After a few small conflicts, the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union or modern day Russia. This made Germany now have to fight on two fronts. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union, with help from the U.S. (lend-lease act) were ready and more powerful to fight. After the war ended, many Soviet Union soldiers and many Nazi soldiers died. -
Germany Surrenders at Stalingrad
During the war, the Soviet Union and the Nazis met up at many cities, one of the most popular was Stalingrad. Stalingrad was a major city to take because it was by the water and could take in ships for transportation of foods and soldiers. The battle at Stalingrad between the Soviet Union and the Nazis lasted for a couple months. Eventually, the Nazis surrendered. It was Germany's first major loss. It was also important because it turned the war around and it weakened Germany's momentum. -
D-Day Invasion at Normandy
The D-Day invasion at Normandy was the huge invasion in which U.S. troops attacked Normandy by air and sea. The invasion weakened Germany's coastal power and it allowed millions of U.S. troops to enter Europe. It was especially important because it was the invasion that ultimately ended the war in Europe. It allowed U.S. troops to enter Europe and slowly take countries back and eventually terminate the Nazi party. -
Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference was significant because it was one of the last conferences between the U.S., Great Britain, and the USSRs leaders. Its purpose was to talk about the post-war organization. They wanted to talk about what they are going to do with Europe after they win the war. The conference was held secretly from the Germans and was one of the most important conferences during WWII. -
V-E Day (Germany Surrenders)
The war in Europe is over! V-E day is what they called the day in which Germany Surrendered along with Italy. After years of war in Europe and millions and millions of soldiers and innocent civilians died, peace has come about in Europe. Because of the surrender, the Nazi party was terminated along with Hitler a few months before. Countries gained their freedom and peace backa and eventually, foreign soldiers in Europe were able to go back home.
