The Fall of the Archduke
Known as the event that sparked the war. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, along with his wife, was assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia, during an inspection trip for the imperial armed forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their killer, Gavrilo Princip, was a Serbian nationalist seeking an end to the Austro-Hungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Austria-Hungary, as well as other countries, blamed the Serbian government for the incident. Austria-Hungary would soon be presented with an offer of assistance. -
